Heating problems

My 1993 maxima gxe i dont know whats wrong with it when the car is at idle it heats up the gauge goes between the H and C but the heater does not work when its between the H and C when i start to drive the car the gauge falls on the C or below the C than the heater works it blows out hot air but than goes to warm or even cold air its freezing here in utah i just want my heater to work what could be the problem and my H and C gauge to work correct
