well there was a recall for the fuel tank filler neck. not sure if it was done since you're in the southern states. it might be leaking fuel from that. also check for rusting.

the oil leak...help us out here...around WHERE is it leaking from? there's about 100000 places oil can leak out.

The oil leak is probably something stupid like valve cover gaskets, believe me most cars do leak oil from that place at a VERY slow rate after a couple years of wear and tear. This is referred to more often as an oil seep than an oil leak because of how minor it is.

As for the fuel leak you and danny have it nailed, my car does the same thing. Thank you for looking up the part numbers for me

Front and/or rear main engine seals are another not unusual place for oil leaks.

Sorry to bump this, But I'm also leaking fuel.

I knew I was leaking from somewhere because my gas gage would go down very fast compared to before and I also smelled gas a lot when in/around the car.
So I looked under the hood, gas lines, tank. Finally I looked at the filler neck and sure enough its pretty rusted and wet. I smelled the liquid which tada turned out to be fuel!

So I know where my problem is now. and I searched a bit to see if other people had the same problem. Find this thread, then I look for recalls to see if i qualified. I think i do.

Anyways, my question. How do I make a recall. I just show up at the dealership and they fix it if i qualify? and am i going to have to pay something, or will it all be covered?

not sure if being a canadian you are covered at all. I know that people here in the US have had to call the NHTSA to have them call nissan and force the recall.

I live in Canada, and my car comes from New Hampshire.
I went to the dealership today and they said they can't do anything since the VIN comes up empty because its american.

They told me that I could try crossing the border and going to a dealership over there. That I MIGHT be able to get the recall there. But it's not worth it driving there with a leaking filler neck. It'd cost me more in the end and they might even refuse me since it's now registered in canada, and the fact that most people had to fight to be able to get that recall anyway...

If it would of been a canadian car, I would of gotten the recall done, or so they say

so if the car was never recalled then the nissan dealer has to replace the parts, even though the car is out of warranty? I think I have this problem too because im not getting the gas mileage I should get (average ~19 to 20 city/hwy). And I can sometimes smell gas from the rear. Now I know why!

How hard is it to replace these parts? Does the tank have to be dropped or is this a easy job?

warranties have nothing to do with recalls, they are totally seperate issues.
BTW, you car isn't out of warranty yet.

so whats the process? Should I call the dealer, give them the vin and confirm it was not recalled and have them fix it. I guess it will be free for everything? If you can "brief" me before I call the dealership that would be great.

Thanks!

This may be helpful:

A few posts down in this thread there is also a helpful post, theres another better thread somewhere but I didn't find it.

I think its generally thought of to fix the filler neck hose yourself, with non OEM hose. As long as you don't have a huge rust problem. Nissan is more likely to offer you a lowball number to buy the car from you than to fix it.

I really really strongly doubt you'll be able to get the recall work done by a dealer.
