Greeny's VE "Retired" 1-08-09 "The Green Mile":-(
Im a GXE owner, i better be more careful what i say, lol
BMW made some of the most reliable I-6s in the world and still do.
I dont blame you for getting sick of shifting. the clutch on my rustang is killer in traffic. thats why i want to keep my max an auto! its nicer as a daily drive that my ford. and 2500 is damn good!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BMW_M30 nuff said, more problems than a VE me thinks.
Yeah, that's another thing i am tired of..shifting..i actually want a "slushbox" trans, thankfully the bmw slushers are good for around 200k like the ve/vq autos.
The reason he didn't "clean it up" was due to some clear coat damage from a pine tree..
But meh, cant go wrong for $2500.

well, at least you know what you want.
gl with the part out. hope ripping it apart justifies the work.
nine years is a long time to own a dd, and with over 400k on the clock, I think it has lived its life. I am just glad you are sticking around.

I really hope the door left an impression of Red on your ***, you dumb ****.
wayne is a cool ****, at least online. if he were half the *** you say he is, I would have been perma-banned.

+1, E34 5-series or M5's are sex, I also like the E36 M3's, but probably wouldn't bother getting a regular E36 3-series. So sad to see it go, but it just figures the tranny would go before that darned o' unreliable VE.
I'm having a love/hate relationship right now with mine too, I just wish I had the time/cash to fix a few certain constant reminders that make me not even want to take it out, then it would be ideal in my situation since I think it would be even scarier to get something I had no previous knowledge of and take the risk of having some/more problems than I already have, plus, my body is nearly mint minus paint in a few spots so that's a big plus.
I hope you enjoy the bimmer, I'm a bit envious you found one in that good of condition for $2,500 though, could be a steal if you get that I6, but the V8's are
Anyway, I'm sure you'll stick around, you're the 3rd gen justice patrol, don't let it turn into the 4th gen forum

............... and then BM is one the most expensive spares brands in South Africa.
Sorry to hear of the Max's box but we all knew it was inevitable ................. imo good choice on that silky smooth in-line 6 replacement though.
Me? - guess if and when my box gives out I will have to fix it as I don't have the nice options you guys have
Always amazed at the prices you guys pay for vehicles over there - the same BM here would most likely set me back something like $12000 ............... and then BM is one the most expensive spares brands in South Africa.

I would have jumped there also, but i can't afford a G
LOL you beat me to it!
Sorry to see it go
, one of the nicer VE's I rode in for sure.
Buut, I'm sure you'll have fun with the bimmer. When my stuff is settled I'm gong to get a rwd, had enough fwd also.
Thanks for your all your help Greeny, your one hell of a mod! Anyone who thinks otherwise can just enjoy slippin autos.

Care to share where? I will be needing some new bearings or a new tranny sooner than later and having someone work on my current one will be around $500 if I drop it on his bench.
I feel 'ya greeny. I've been with this car for 6 1/2 years and just feel like its too much of the same. When I get the next one, the max will probably just end up staying as a 2nd/backup car. Good luck wit' zee Germans
It's too bad to see it parted, but I didn't know you had a rust issue.
Eventually, a car just has to go. Over 300k is a lot and you definitely got a lot of good use out of it.
I know exactly how you feel. I have driven my car about 50 Since October.
It has been sitting in the garage and I don't really even feel like driving it, either.
Good luck with the BMW.

i got a used 5sp lsd tranny for my turd gen for 350 shipped to my door 1~2 years ago with only 80k on it. good deal imo. just because a tranny goes is a bad reason to junk a car. it takes all of a 1;/2 a day to put a new one in. then at least you can sell the car for some $. or keep it for a DD and buy a fun car. asin what i do with my 1992 and 2003...
Driver rear wheel well. I cut most of it out, then slopped some metal filler in there, painted it over.

anonther spot, again i cut most of it out, filled, but it's coming back again.

and the worrysome spot for me. i ground most of it off a while back, then painted over it with rustoleum paint, but to no avail..It's probably really bad behind it.

I've been very tempted too Greeny to buy a BM one day. Ever since I was a kid I wanted the 740iL. The 3rd Gen is sort of a boat - but the 7 series is like a tanker.
Only thing that scares me about the 7 is the price of replacement parts seems insane. Maybe it's just the wrong supplier I was looking at, but $1,600 for the catalytic converter alone is nuts. The injectors look like $170.00 each. There must be a more cost effective way to get parts. If you ever find a tactic - do post it, then I'll consider the 7 again.

I won't be going anywhere, regardless of owning a maxima or not. (btw, i still have a 93 gxe sitting out in the carport also) it's still got lots of life left in it..
I'm simply not interested in fixing/driving this car anymore, when you d/d a car for 9 years, then come back and say the same thing

341190 / 9 yrs = 37910 miles per yr. which is about 104 miles daily.
You sig could say VE = Reliable.
Why don't you want a two door car? Also where are the locations of the last two pics located? I couldn't tell. (Limited experience)
Too bad you can't part out your knowledge, I would invest in that if I didn't have the ability to forget things.

My friend started a thread there a little while ago about VE's, reviews were mixed, be sure to throw that odo picture around wherever you can

My knowledge is all over this forum, just use search.
Time to move on, I hear ya brother. At first I read the post with some sorrow, then I realized- just like with women, if you have to "stick it out" past "some special point" then she wasn't the one for you.
My 1971 Chevy truck is sitting in the driveway next to my Maxima. That truck was my dad's truck, for eight years she's been my truck, in fourteen years my son will be driving the truck that belonged to his Grandfather that he never got to meet and he got to rebuild with his father. That is a car that you never give up.
I still love my Maxima, but when the time comes I hope I have the common sense to realize that it's time to part ways.
Otherwise, I have much respect for Bimmers, as my brother is a 80's BMW fan- he has had no less than four at any given point over the past ten years- 3's, 5's, and 6's. His favorite is his 86 635CSi manual. He has beat the dog poop out of that straight 6 and posi rear for three years without mechanical failure. (He got it with ~130k and keeps the fluids clean.) His largest single expense was the rear set of Fuldas he stupidly burned the tread off of in a year.
I wish Godspeed to old Greeny, but look harder for a 6 speed 4.0 (to this day I want a 94 M5.) Furthermore- is there anything you could have done other than parting her out? I don't think so.
