Exhaust Systems...

Im about to try this again lastnight the site was down but im back... im here looking around for a pretty good exhaust system I was told at a local parts store that I could get a Pacesetter set up for about $500... This is a 92' GXE so yeah its an automatic I dont want nothing that too loud but something with a nice "hum" to it... something kind of deep but not loud...but keep in mind this will help others on the 3rd Gen forum so...Links,Vids, Pictures w/info of setup, ect... Will be appreciated..

This is a pic of the muffler im thinking about getting...

I want it to sound something like this...

Why is you Pacesetter price so high? Is that for the Catback system? Summit offer's that catback for about $220...It's a 2.25" system with a 18" bullet style resonator(Louvered I believe) and a 14" dual tip muffler. I'm about to order that same catback but I'll be replacing that resonator with a perforated core Thrusher 24" or 28" resonator. I've thought about going with a 2.5" exhaust system on my VG but I think that's too big for practical street performance.

well as far as sound goes with this muffler im not sure. but the best bang for the buck and proven over and over again in this forum is a warp speed Y-pipe. tons and tons of wonderful feed back on this mod. there have been HUGE complaints about pacesetter exhausts for the 3rd gen max and its an easy mostly painless to install. i thought some one put on a sentra SE-R or altima after market muffler and that sounded good. if you put too big of a muffler on you can hurt performance.

If you go to the warpspeed website (warpspeedperformance.com) you can buy a complete exhaust -- y-pipe, cat, b-pipe and muffler -- for $600 including shipping. It's all ready to go, just bolt on and you can do it yourself.

If you can find a shop that still carries it, you can buy a GReddy SP2 for about $500-$600. GReddy stopped making them for the 3rd gen, but there might be some shops that still have them in stock. This won't include the y-pipe, though.

^^ this is what I have:

I think most people will agree that the y-pipe is one of the best mods you can get for the money. It increases hp and mpg, plus the aftermarket one is cheaper than a stock one, so it's a win-win-win mod.

Personally, I would get the y before anything else unless my exhaust was totally rusted out. Even then, if I didn't have the money for a bolt-on exhaust, I would buy a y-pipe, then have a muffler shop weld a cat-back on. Not including the y-pipe, most places will do that for a couple hundred bucks.

there are no other headers for our cars and pacesetter headers will not work with the Y-Pipe i told you about. they are also the same pacesetters i told you have been know to be a PITA to install and often need to be modded to work. they seem great with most ther cars that are not maximas idk why. the stock manifolds flow about as well. never heard good things about this system.

warp speed y-pipe alone with out cat back has great results.

would porting/ polishing the stock headers be a solid way to go when upgrading the exhaust?

due to the log style, I guess it has been determined that is a "no," noticeable gains would not be found.

there are threads in the forum not to old. the opinions are devided. but my thoughts are that porting the manifolds is pointless. next to no performance increase. porting the exhaust ports in the z31 forums have good reviews.

i have read nothing but bad things regarding pacesetter in here. when i have the manifold out of my parts car i plan to play around with the idea of headers. but im afraid that i cant get them to work with a stock y pipe an be any good.

there are a few guys who almost swear by pacesetter, but most have problems with them.

it all depends wat u wanna build u car for...top end or low end....its up to u...

EQUAL LENGTH headers, bigger pipes and big *** muffler----> top end gains but u r gonna lose ur low end

maybe stock exhaust manifold, tight pipes and decent performance muffler--- low end gains but u r gonna lose ur high end....

and stock exhaust system is made for more low end than top end, kind of comes in a middle but more for low end like 60% for low end and 40% for top end....and ya low end i meant 0-60mph and rest is top end...

i m more into low end so i would install equal length headers and tight pipes to gain my low end....dont really care about top end....

since he has a VG auto if he installs the Y-pipe there will be a little loss in low end but he wont notice it much. i want to make up a set of long tube header for my 89 SE to get a better lower end, but then i would have to mod my y-pipe that i made up about a year ago. but then again im not making my max fast, just fun and reliable-ish"
