Interesting issue

Well I started my car and started driving, I noticed that it was slow to accellerate, but I attruibuted it to be being stuck in a pot hole. I start driving and the car will not shift out of second gear. I go to the next stoplight and move the shifter to make sure it is in drive, well it is. At the next stoplight I shut off the engine, and turn it back on, and there are none of the earlier issues. BTW this happened to me during the summer. Any ideas will be appreciated, Thanks.

Your transmission is on its way out.
Check your fluid levels and for any leaks in the fluid system, and look for some cash as well.

because it went away with a restart, I would recommend cleaning all the connectors and packing them with di-electric grease to seal them against corrosion.

If the trans itself was mechanically failing, then the symptom would be constant. a shut off and restart is usually an electrical issue.

I would recommend checking/cleaning the tps connector especially.

Not always the case, remember my gxe doing some weird crap like this a few years ago? (sticking in second gear/stalling out due to sticking in second gear) I done a fluid swap on the trans, it has not done this since..(12,000 miles ago)

ya my transmission was screwing up a couple weeks ago. I drained the tranny fluid, refilled, drove 2 more weeks, and drained and refilled again. seems to be shifting like brand new now, 4 year old rebuilt tranny. auto ve btw

I reccommend draining fluid, filling up and then do it again after driving around a few days.

Like greeny said, check the TPS

Fluid swaps do help. I had mine done a few months back. Seemed to make a little bit of a difference.

I ended up cleaning the connectors, helped with the throttle response, and the trans seemed to shift sooner ( placebo effect) thanks for the help, will do fluid change on my spring break.
Thanks.
