odometer

made a JY trip today and picked up an SE instrument cluster, kind of a bonus since i just wanted a replacement for my instrumment cluster since my odo was dead.
i was wondering how to roll the numbers on the odometer to make them match what my car actually has? i can't seem to figure it out. i'm guessing it's one of those things they purposely make tricky to do/impossible so that ppl don't just roll the numbers back.

new cluster has 380k on it my car only has 210k

thanks in advance guys!

His odo is dead, which is why he needed the replacement.

yea what he said,

it's ok i fiddled with it long enough and figured it out. you have to take of the odometer, remove the motor, bend the little hinges that keep the shaft the numbers rotate on and remove the set of numbers, set them, tape them across to hold them in place, then reassemble + remove tape.

more questions:
stock odometer has a top speed of 200 km/h on it (i think thats like 135mph)
and the SE (new one i just installed) has a top speed of 240km/h (like 150 mph)
now my question is will the speedometer read the correct speed i swapped the entire SE cluster, not just the white faces.because the intervals between the numbers is smaller. it feels like it's right on.

oh and it took a couple seconds for the speedometer to start working after the install but now works fine.

just thought i'd share

what was actually wrong with it? broken gears? or a dead motor? you could have just swapped the odometer and swapped its motor to get it working.. no reason to go bending stuff when a screwdriver will do.

It will read the correct speed I believe, at least it will here in the US. However if you tried to install a MPH unit, it would be be inaccurate unless you used the corresponding speed sensor. I think I tried installing a MPH cluster in a Canadian Maxima I had, either that or I tried installing the Canadian Maxima's cluster in my US Maxima without swapping speed sensors. Whichever it was, it was inaccurate. But if they are both KM/HR clusters and you're using a KM/HR SS, it should be true.

i dunno.. i think the 145mph gauges are just calibrated to sweep less per-mph than the 125s are...

yes. my ve gauges read exactly the same speed as my old vg gauges did (its off by exactly the same speed... gonna get correct sized tires, soon, I hope).

if the odometer works but the speedo won't read, then the speedo is bad. cuz the odometer plugs into the back of the speedo, remember? or else maybe you are missing one of the screws for the speedo or something.. but if they are all there then you might want to put the other speedo in.

yea i know that, both speedo's work but as i just found out after i swapped odo motors that i think both odo motors are dead. And somehow the gears jammed on the old odo, but now neither odo motor is working. i'll just go to an electrician and see if they might have a motor that will work if not, another jy trip/ni$$an dealer$hip

IIRC, all you have to do is slide the end of the odo wheel, match mileage, then slide the end back in place. I did this with my 91 SE.
