Speedo

Does anyone have one I can borrow?

Sorry, cheesy I know.. anyway, the real question here: What the hell is wrong with mine and how much is it gonna cost me? Ever since I got it, it's been failing every rare while, in the middle of a trip, usually for just a small while and then it restores itself. Now, however, it's a problem not to be ignored.. more often than not it's reading around 0, but it still fixes itself every once in a while, but I don't like the idea of not even knowing if I'm speeding whenever I see a cop, especially given that I have several illegal mods.. so if anyone can help me out I'd appreciate it!

Sounds like a connector problem, it could have a short in it and be grounding out. The speed sensor could be bad

If the speed sensor was bad, it wouldn't ever restore itself though right? Might be connection problem.. I guess I should just break down and take it to a speedometer place..

Most likely the speedo unit itself. Very common for this to occur. If when your speedo goes out but your odometer is still working then you can rule out your speed sensor.

So do I need to actually replace the physical unit (i.e. the gauge and needles?) If so that would be the perfect excuse to get an SE gauge cluster and indiglo needle on my dad's tab (he usually agrees to pay for repairs on my car, at least for one more year..)

Because the faults are hard to track down, you would be best to replace the entire cluster. I used it as an excuse!
