two different ve30de motors, i have both lots of pics

ok so i made that title mainly to get attention because they are both obviously ve motors but there are just a few small small changes. And i know they arent two different motors i just said that. im wondering what are these differences though? On the side of the intake manifold on my old one there is a lever type deal but not on my new one, and also were the resevour for the coolent is in my new one my old one has that gold wired thing. sorry i have no idea what that is, but my new one doesnt have one??....when i baught it he said it was a jdm swap, so the production motor from japan, is that why? and finallly i know the specs are the same for both US production and jdm but he told me (wich i didnt belive) that the intake manifold was different and it added 10 hp...check it out.

Just out of curiosity, what years are they? Mines a 92 and looks like the second one. I noticed the gold thing on Hectic's new VE and had no idea what it was there either.

the one WITH the thing on the passenger side of the manifold is the variable intake actuator. it's only on manual tranny VEs. the JDM engines are the same, but that intake DOES add power, but the a/t versions never came with it.

and the other gold thing, that's the ABS actuator.

the new one has had a engine swap then, all VE 5 speeds came with the power valve on the intake from the factory..

All wrong. The one with the actuator was turbo'd. That's the boost limiter actuator.

the guy swapped in a motor from an auto and lied to you that it adds more hp (may not even be JDM unless he gave you the papers). as i said there is no difference in JDM and USDM motors

swap the intakes and call it a day. ABS IMO gets in the way so leave it out.

as i was told the valve smooths out the engine during heavy shifting and balences the air flow (improving hp's and torques)

FYI all VG30E in the max from 89 to 94 have the valve, auto and manual.

what it does is it changes the intake runner length, which somehow-or-other makes more power in the low-end. then as rpm increases, it opens again (short runners). the auto doesn't need it, cuz the tq converter sort of smooths out the powerband due to the nature of how t/c's work.

+1
exactly. it creates more power by increasing the volumetric efficiency of the plenum alowing for a steady flow into the runners long the lenght of the plenum log.

nice, thanks guys, that really helped, ill probobly swap the two intake manifolds then, also what should i do while its off, what im saying is since ill have to take it off what else could i do that you ussually wouldnt do because you dont wanna bother with taking off the manifold? any good mods or anything?... and like i said before im putting up a new build thread once i get this all straitened out. the guy sold the car to me with a lien still on it and a bunch of other illegal stuff like not registering it in his name and filling out the title himself...its getting sorted now so it will be up soon.

there are some minor differences between a JDM VE and a USDM VE, but if you monkies ever read the stickies, you would know that.

It looks like your VTC and TPS harness boots are cracked on your new one. Mine are like that and until recently ive taken care of them, they;ve given me intermitent hell, just something to keep an eye, look for corrosion inside the harness.

maybe pull the lower intake too and replace the knock sensor and harness

The JDM one runs on Tofu.

Search man, just type "jdm swap ve" and you'll find out all sorts of neat info about cam sensors and whatnot
