try that goo gone stuff, or maybe even lighter fluid. lighter fluid works great on getting stickers and other stuff off of guitars, and guitars have the same kind of paint as cars. i know people who have taken their guitars to auto shops to get them painted.

I was number 3 I think and I used this rubber eraser thing from 3m...attaches to a drill and pulls all of the adhesive off...without damaging the paint...hope that helps

Oooo! Oooo! Oooo!

I want to do this to, so how do I get started?

I don't have a heat gun, but I can get my hands on a hairdryer…

What next? Did you guys pry them off by hand, or did you get it started using a flathead screwdriver? Please let me know what you did because I want them off as soon as I can get the 'Goo-Gone' and a couple of hours to get them off.

I'd really like to do this tomorrow, so please let me know how to get started. Thanks!

A hairdryer will work. Just heat them up, and start prying them off any way you can/want. They'll pry off just by pulling them off, and it's easier if you pull with one hand, and with the other scrape away some of the adhesive crap using a screwdriver or something. Then it's just the matter of dealing with the "goo".

a hair dryer will work better than my heat gun. i keep burning myself!!! it's too hot!!! i scratched the paint on the right side, and in a moment of insanity i used a power washer. . . it took a little chunk of paint off too!!!! IT"S TAKING FOREVER!!!! i got the right side done, and i was so frustrated after like 5 hours i quit. maybe sunday i'll get around to doing the driver's side. but it does look alot better. i just gotta finish getting the last little bits of adhesive off.

I just took mine off. You guys inspired me, i've hated them ever since I bought the car but I didn't know what the paint would look like underneath. I used Simple Green, a screw driver, a tooth brush, and a washcloth. It only took me about one and a half hours, I think mine were pretty dried out from the sun, except for the passenger door it was a pain because the adhesive was still there. It looks 10 times better now. How has anyone took the black strip off around the fender because I want to take those off too but I don't know what they will look like underneath. About the yellow underneath I don't think you can take it off but it looks fine on pearl.

Give this a try. "Avon" skin so soft. This works great for removing road film and tar but is made to apply to the skin. Go Figure????

i took the trim off one of my doors this afternoon. i just used a long flathead swrewdriver to pry it off. i started picking at the adhesive, then put krud kutter on the stuff and let i soak for a while. then i used a hairdryer and rubbed the stuff off with my fingers. i have 2 blisters now though. do you think using a blow dryer or a heat gun while peeling off the trim will cause there to be less adhesive left on the car?

Ok, I got them damned things off…

Now the problem is this adhesive goo.

I've tried the Goo-Gone, but it doesn't seem to be doing the trick, unless I'm doing something wrong. It took me all of 5 minutes to pull the trim off both sides of my car, and I know it's going to look much better, but now I have that dark grey adhesive hanging in there. I worked on it for about two hours with the Goo-Gone, a flathead screwdriver and a washcloth, but I wasn't able to hardly get any of the stuff off. I stopped using the screwdriver because I was afraid of scratching up the paint while I tried to remove the 'goo'.

Anybody have any suggestions? While I worked on the driver's side, I tried to soak the passenger's side witht the Goo-Gone, but it didn't seem to do much to loosen the adhesive. Should I try the hairdryer now? Please help - I've got my company's 15th Anniversary party to go to this Sunday, and I don't want to show up with this crap on my car. Thanks for the suggestions and good luck to everybody else that's trying to remove these things.

Use the heatgun/hairdryer on the adhesive to heat it up as you're working on getting it off. You can kinda roll it when you heat it up a little bit and that seems to help...

Thanks, James92!!!

I'll give it a shot when the weather clears up (By Thursday). It's supposed to rain until then, and I should be able to work the stuff off pretty easily if the hairdryer will help.

Another Transaction Succesfully Completed…

The job is nearly 100% completed…

BTW - Thanks to Abbey for the advice with using the Avon "Skin so Soft". I don't think I'll be using it for use on my skin any time soon (unless I'm going somewhere where there's lots of mosquitoes - I heard Skin so Soft is better than most insect repellents for use against mosquitoes).

I was finally able to get the spongy adhesive 'goo' off, and my car looks so much better! I still have to get the actual adhesive off, but I'm sure I can get that off with the Goo-Gone, lighter fluid, etc. Right now, I'm just happy that I've finally got those damned things off. It took me about 3-4 hours of work once I started using the Skin so Soft. One trick when using this or the Goo-Gone is to make sure that you keep the spongy adhesive soaking wet - once it dries, it's harder to remove. Also, I parked my car in the sun so the warmth of the car would help as well (I'm sure it wouldn't have taken me so long if it wasn't cool, windy & partly cloudy yesterday). I would also suggest finding a tool other than a screwdriver to 'scrape' the adhesive from the car. Oddly enough, my 7 year old son found an abandoned zip-tie which I used to keep from scratching the paint. I imagine an old plastic spatula would probably make the job easier as well.

Thanks again, everyone - I'm a much happier Maxima Owner!!!
