No power to the ECU/No Spark

Ok, 89 max VG30E engine. Just did an engine swap. I have no spark or power to the ECU or fuel pump. I've check the ENG.CONT relay and the 25A fuse under the hood both were good. When I jumpered pins 2&5 on the ENG.CONT relay then I hear the fuel pump the ECU lights up. Somebody please tell me what the issue may be

have you tried a new relay? did you check for voltage on the coil-circuit of the relay harness (dunno what pin #s ) when the key is on? if the coil circuit pins have voltage and jumping the 2 pins you jumped makes the ECU turn on then that means that the relay is bad.

Thanks Cape for responding, I'll be sure to check that when I get off work tonight. I may even buy another relay in the morning to rule that out as a culprit.

just yank a relay off some other not-needed-for-this-test plug an see if it works (like one of the radiator fan relays or something). if that fixes it then go get another relay and plug it in and you're good to go.

Hey Cape, I tried another relay but that didn't resolve the issue. If I had to guess I think the fuel injection harnes for 2,4,6 grounded for a second because I heard it.

a) did you check for voltage on the fusible link's socket? it should always be present regardless of key position.
b) did you check for voltage on the not-close-together pins of the ECCS relay? it should also always be present.

Ok, update I bought an engine control relay and I heard click with the key on. I now have power to the ECU and I hear the fuel pump come on but still no spark. I check for voltage at the distributor and it's good, I still have no spark. Any ideas? The distributor, coil, rotor and cap have been changed out.

Another update, I check the ECU, ECM or PCM which ever you pefer and it's giving me a code 21 ignition circuit failure.

check the resistor/condensor pack thingy

http://i164.photobucket.com/albums/u...n/IMG_3215.jpg

it's on the same harness as the ign coil... it looks like a capped connector, but it actually has something in it.

also the power transistor (3-wire plug in front of the coil)

Is the distributor shaft actually rotating? (ignition timing pickup signal happening?)

Hey Cape the coil and transistor are good. I think my ECU may have a bad ignition circuit. Acoording the FSM the ECU generates the ignition singal which is then sent to the transistor and the voltage is then stepped up by the coil. I don't think the ECU is sending an ignition signal.

what about the condensor/resistor? the coil is 'secondary ignition circuit'.... code 21 is 'primary ignition circuit'. i said it's on the same harness that leads to the coil, but i never said anything about the coil itself.

Hey Cape do you have a pic of the condensor/resistor?

i already posted a link to one.. sort of. it looks like a capped plug, but it has a -||- symbol and a OHM symbol written on it

Thanks Cape I found with my Haynes manual, testing it for 2.2 ohms now.

Ok, I got 2.19 ohms the first time then after that I couldn't get any reading from it. I tried getting th piece from advance and autozone no luck. I have to get it from the dealer.

Ok I've replace the power transistor, resistor/condensor and ECU no change in status. Still no spark.

Well after going to through every piece of the wiring harness and running various checks. I tried another power transistor (The other two tested fine) in a last ditch effort and my MAX fired up!!! I do have a splitting headache, more taping of the harness and some tuning to do but other than that this case is closed!!
