tranny shiftin issues...

well i don't know if it's an issue but it did'nt start till yesterday.

it's a 92 maxima gxe auto. she just rolled over on 167k miles.
okay 1st-2nd shifts are delayed.
no slipping.
no flaring up then shift.
it's just delayed.
3500rpms and under no delay.
wot no delay.
the shifts are firm not to firm though.
2nd-3rd no delay same for 3rd-4th.
reverse is fine.
another issue is kickdown when your in 2nd or when she shifts 1st-2nd then u floor it it takes a second or two to realize to down shift.
i do happen to have a 4.7k ohm resistor in place of the line pressure resistor.
(it's there for the firm shifts and quick kickdown response).
now here's where it gets intresting:
when you remove the resistor not only are the shifts neck breaking hard they're quick and so are the down shifts.
i changed the tranny fluid about 25k miles ago (i know it's time to change it again).
can anyone here PLEASE shed some light on this? thanks in advance!

Been there, sold that.

You could try a new TPS, TCU or drop resistor. I tried all without any luck, but you never know. Mine would hesitate from 1st to second no matter how much gas I was giving it, at least you have no hesitation at WOT.

Yeah, cost me $2200 to rebuild completely. I know, more than the value but I needed it for work and already invested too much time and money to let it go.

IMHO, auto tranny problems = M/T swap time if you plan on keeping the car.

yea i know.
to be honest i did'nt really invest to much into her.
mostly blood n sweat.
i LOVE the car.

and i've been thinking about doing a 5spd swap.
i've helped another member take one out for caped. so it'll be time consuming but it'll be worth it in the end.
but for now i see no reason to do one yet...

That's a pretty good price, i've heard of someone paying 3700.00, but then again he probably went to one of those chain places.

so ur saying the resistor u installed is causing delayed shifts but its easing the shifts so their not as hard.....it sounds like u should just put the line pressure resistor back in there and try changing your fluid more often

u can try a tranny filter/cooler kit its a remote filter inside the engine bay that allows u to change the filter as easy as an oil filter: http://perma-cool.com/Catalog/Cat_page25.html

i have a stacked external tranny cooler.
i put a 4.7k ohm resistor so the shifts could be firmer. it's been there for quite sometime.

this started two days ago.
it does'nt slip.
it just freezes for a second or two then shift...but the shifts are firm.
and this is only for 1st to 2nd gear.

have you checked your TPS for a smooth resistance transition from idle to WOT? do you have any loose connections, or any connection corrosion on any conector related to trans operation?

now that i think about it.
on the highway sometimes when i hit a bump the t/c unlocks and then locks.
it'll only do this a couple times then stop after i keep hitting bumps.

You do know that the tc will unlock wen you depress and press the gas and when you depress the brake. Totally normal.

This seems to be a big problem most of them because mine shifts real hard when I have my switch on power i have a 92 GXE and if i really give it gas then the rpm goes to about 5000 then shifts i dont know if its normal or not but since ive have my car the gears seem to be off to me but i guess that just how they are im not sure but if you find out what it was let me know

no this is a different problem then just the hard shifts of a vg auto if the a/c being on has something too do with it then it most likely an electrical issue somewhere

Don't mean to sound like a smartass, but i wanna get this solved before i need a new tranny.
so far it seems like all of yall are sayin it's electrical related.

i was planin on putting in a 1/2 pint of seafoam trans tune.

the shifts are firm.
it's just 1st to 2nd is delayed unless the a/c is on, wot, or under 3.5k rpms.
no tcu codes either.
