Power Window Diagnosis Please

1994 Nissan Maxima 6 cyl

KEEP IN MIND THAT I RARELY EVER TOUCH OR USE ANY OF THESE SWITCHES since 3 of the 4 windows were glued closed.

Ok when i bought this car the previous owner had glued the drivers window, the front passenger window and the rear passenger window closed. I assumed the rear drivers side passenger window was glued too but it wasnt .....he doesnt remember how or why the windows stopped working.

I had comtemplated just replacing all the doors of the glued windows with the working windows/doors from a parts car if possible .....

Please give me your suggestions as how to fix each window problem.

1. Drivers window - Sometimes when Im driving I can hear the window motor running. If i press the switch the motor will run as long as im holding the switch. I removed the glue from the window and let the window drop down, pressed the switch heard the motor but the window did not move so I reglued it closed.

2. Front passenger window - Sometimes when Im driving I can hear the motor and it sounds like the glued window is trying to move. Today from the drivers switch if I press the switch I just hear a click, I hear the same click from the passenger window switch but no motor sound.

3. Rear passenger driver-side window - Window is not glued. Today the window would go up and down from the drivers side switch and back door switch. I never let it all the way down just half way and back up quickly , there is a strange sound as it gets to the top like its caught on something.
Somedays, it will not go down no matter which switch I press and I hear no click when either switch is pressed.

4. Rear passenger-side window - Window is glued. Today, from the driver's switch and window switch I could hear a click. The other day the window made sounds like it was trying to move. I did unglue this window and let it drop down and pressed the switch but didnt hear the motor or anything so i reglued the window.

The drivers window motor always work when I press the switch but with the other windows either all of them or noe of 2 of them, etc.. work

5. Just as i went out to take this picture of the drivers switch, the drivers window motor would run when i pressed the switch and the back drivers passenger window would go up and down and both the passenger window switches would click. BUT after I pressed the pw lock switch down everything stopped working except the drivers window motor whether the pw lock switch was pressed down or up.

Thanks I will check the pick your parts for the driver side switch .... whats a decent price range for these at a parts yard?

When i drove later today ... the windows were back working or not working as they were before I pressed the p/w lock......

The regulators Im really leaning toward buying remanufactured ones or new instead of used as i dont want to buy used regulators with the same problem as the ones Im replacing.

Well it took me a LONG time to get used to having windows that were glued but the back window was not rolled up all the way so air could circulate a little BUT the car ran and drove great even with a few things that needed repair. I just went along with the notion that they were not working UNTIL I heard the motor running at various times in all the glued windows.....

BUT .. by writing the long story above I now realize whats been going on with the rear window that actually works and why sometime it works and sometime it doesnt. I will unglue my front passenger window just to see if it works like my rear window. So I will use my rear driver passenger window more now....

The info about having a bad master switch was very helpful .....

What kind of idiot did you buy this car from? I wonder what else on the car he glued? Seriously, remove your valve covers and make sure he didn't pour some Elmer's in during the last oil change.

Well ..... he's cheap ... he admits it and didnt want to spend money to get the car fixed .. plus nobody wanted to ride in a car where the windows didnt let down and he wouldnt turn on the ac to save on gas .... so he didnt have to worry people asking him for rides to places I guess.....

Well I NEVER have liked the ideal of the windows being GLUED shut .....mainly because its very obvious that 2 of the the windows have been glued shut but this was before I learned that fixing the windows was not that expensive to do.... so I just went with the status quoa .... Im guessing I could stuff some cardboard along the top of the window to hold it in place until I get the regulators replaced???? This way the windows can be lowered and raised back up without reglueing??? I read somewhere that somebody used a wire hangar contraction.....

ALSO I stuck with the glued windows because I was having problems with my alarm system which yall helped me diagnose and take care of on here .... I dont want all the non working windows to drop when I hit a big bump in the road in the midst of a rain storm......
