Temp/Perm Fix for Failed Regulator
Temp/Perm Fix for Failed Regulator
Ok hope this helps those who want a temp fix for a failed regulator to hold windows up in place. The wire hangar holds the window up in place from the bottom of the window.
Hopefully your screws inside the doors are not rusted thru - WD40 or rust penetrate might be needed.
Most of you will never suffer the misery of a failed regulator .. thanks to BenStoked this is how I fixed mine temporarily.
I remembered to take pictures as some of us have never saw the inside of your doors.
Materials - one wire drycleaner hangar cut in half for each window.
Screwdriver and masking tape to hold window in place. ALSO if your screw are rusted see above...
I can only have 5 images so I picked them carefully
Once you get the door and panel off here is a pic of the wire hangar as I followed BenStoked's directions ......
ANYWHY here is the prototype of BenStoke's famous wire window crutch.

Use masking tape to hold the window glass up.
You make 2 of these for each end of the window .. you have to adjust the bend of the wire according each individual door or window opening. You start with the bend to put to hold the window up from the bottom and you bend the other sections as you go along.

You can remove the masking tape to see if the window drops any or stays close and adjust your bending of the wire hangar as necessary.
NOW WHAT I DID was i put the panel back over the overhanging wire ... so you couldnt see the wire hanging down ..as i think it will hold the wire in place better.
KINDA OFF TARGET A LITTLE BIT
I had wanted to remove my regulator to see it up close and It was bugging me as my window would only go down 1/4 th of the way and i wanted to know why ....
While trying to look down inside the door (DIFFICULT) I noticed a reflection of the top part of the regulator and i could see that the top tube had broke under the bottom and the wire had no tube to go thru ...

HOW would I get the regulator out? By cutting the wire at the bottom????
Put the panel back on the door
Here is the finished project - Hope This Helps as a Temp or Permanant Fix for Your failed regulators.

No you don't have to cut the regulator.. You have to free the glass from the regulator and when you take all the bolts out that hold it in, you can snake it out of the opening/space at the bottom.
Why does it click when I press the window switch instead of hearing the motor running, does that mean the motors stuck??

I would love to do my other 2 doors temporarily but I have a screw stuck in the same place on both doors!!!
