Replacing Bose h/u

Came across this:

"If your Bose headunit dies, don't repair it, go to Wal-Mart and get a Scosche FAI-3 OEM integration adapter or equivalent for about $17, a wiring kit for a Nissan and the antenna lead converter that is also used to hook up aftermarket CD players. They used to not carry a 89-94 Maxima wiring kit but the 93-97 Altima one also works. You would just need to put a tap in the Maxima factory amp turn-on lead. You will also need to get a small 12vdc relay from RadioShack because aftermarket amp transistors are not strong enough to turn on the factory Bose relay." via http://home.earthlink.net/~jcgebhart/maxindex.html

Has anybody done this? I'm about to install a new h/u in my "new" '92 that has the busted Bose h/u.

I'm wondering if putting the tap in the Maxima factory turn-on lead is only necessary if you end up using the 93-97 Altima wiring kit? The language is a bit unclear there.

I had my aftermarket H/U triggering the bose amps. I just used the same trigger as the antenna. No issues at all.

Well, I found the Scosche FAI-3 at WalMart and a really really cumbersome "Nissan '74 +" wiring kit and got it all hooked up. The FAI-3 has to dangle inline between the h/u and the factory wiring, so it's really kind of precarious. Nonetheless, it works like a charm. Well, at least on the two Bose speakers that work. I'm gonna pilfer a couple speakers from my blue one and hope they work.
