Timing Belt Kit??

I was looking at this timing belt kit for my 93 vg30e. The company or manufacturer is called GATES. It is a complete kit with the belt and the tensioner, and it is the cheapest that Ive seen so far at only $44.64 Was wondering if its a good buy?? Its on amazon.com.

Gates makes good belts and hoses but I've never used their timing belts. If it has the correct markings I would think it would be ok. I'm curious myself...

Buy an OEM timing belt and tensioner if you want to do the job and forget about it.

Gates is an OEM manufacturer, however only an actual nissan belt comes with the timing marks.

If you are going to do the timing belt, make sure you also replace the water pump at the same time. I'd recommend OEM (Nissan) parts unless you don't plan on keeping the car.

well, heres a thought for you, does it say if its for the round tooth or square tooth? you have to keep in mind that our VG's have 2 different types. one will be round tooth and the other will be square tooth so if you order it from amazon.com and it didn't specify for which one it is then you are out $45 my friendl. i suggest that if you decide to keep the car go to your Nissan dealer and buy the OEM belt and take your VIN as that will tell them which belt you will need unless the engine was changed then the only other way is by taking off the timing belt cover and you will see which belt it is, either square tooth or round tooth. point is just buy OEM parts when it comes to timing components. here is the list of parts from Nissan that i bought:

2 cam seals
1 crank seal
timing belt
timing belt tensioner
timing belt tensioner spring
timing belt tensioner stud
timing belt tensioner lock washer
timing belt tensioner washer
timing belt tensioner nut
timing belt tensioner spring stud
water pump
thermostat

paid nearly $250 for all the parts from Nissan.

if your car has the ORIGINAL engine, then all 89-92 are square, all 94 are round, and apparently 93 can be either, depending how late into the 93-model-year production run your car was built.
