replace the striking rod seal (get a new seal and new lockpins for it). it can be a huge pita to get off, due to rust. but my tranny leaks out of it because i couldn't get the yoke off, so i couldn't replace the seal.

well this was last october and i never managed to get the ef'fer off, so i gave up.

and no that's the wrong number

you need 32898 (and maybe 32859 if yours is all mangled like they usually are...)

and the star of the show is part 30401G on this page: http://www.courtesyparts.com/maxima-...1677_1691.html

you don't know how envious I am of the BOTH of you... the 5spd swap writeup is available, but I have no mechanical ability to do all that work nor the tools nor the garage space
... and what's worse... you can put a VE 5spd tranny in now!!! g'ah!

Congrats 300zmax for your near successful (if not already completed) transformation! Enjoy!

supposedly the angle is slightly different and you'll leak transmission fluid from that side if you don't swap them. I thought it was if you swap the VLSD from a VE, which is what I did, but I don't know about this situation (VG auto to VG manual).

ok??? but can you tell me whats the real reason to swap them. when i did my 5spd conversion i left the auto bracket on the block and did not swap it with the manual one.

some people have had leaks becaues of it. without a really good measuring setup it would be hard to say for sure what the actual difference is, but it's got SOMETHING to do with either the angle that the axle sits at relative to the tranny, or the offset. Technically the a/t and m/t axles (even vg to vg) are not the same but most people never really care about that too much b/c the axles have a little bit of lateral expandability/contractability in them, but the rigid shaft from the bearing to the diff does not.

They are different and a PITA to swap, but you must do it unless you like an oily undercarriage and topping off the gear oil every couple of weeks. Been there, done that...
