Pilot Bushing, Clutch Job

So I'm still in the slow process of replacing my clutch but haven't had the time to go to the car which is a 1.5 hr drive away. Anyhow, between the times I have gone I have had different friends helping me out and so I wasn't the one taking off the clutch and I'm not sure if there was a pilot bushing, where its located, what its for, etc... Do we have one on '92 VE 5 speeds? I put the clutch and pp with a alignment tool and didnt see any issues.

Can anyone comfirm everything is fine or should I be looking for this bushing somewhere??? Pictures would help, Thanks all.

You won't really notice the pilot bushing assuming it's all stock. It's just a round metal sleeve, really. It's located in the very center of the "hole" on the flywheel side of the crank. It's what the end of the clutch alignment tool fits into. If I were you I wouldn't worry about it. It certainly wouldn't have fallen out or anything, so unless you specifically pulled it (big PITA, so you would definitely remember doing it) out it should still be in there. I've never replaced the pilot bushing when doing a clutch job on any of my Maximas.

I put a pilot bushing in my JDM (since it was an auto engine) the other day. Here's a pic (look at the inner most "sleeve" in the center of the crank):

on a 3rd gen, the bushing's only purpose is to hold the alignment tool. my a/t engine did not have that bushing.. it had the larger-bore t/c pilot bushing, so i could not use the tool to align the clutch (i had to set the clutch loosely, mount tranny, then tighten the clutch PP bolts thru the starter hole)

now that's not always the case tho. on my z31, the pilot bushing DOES contact the input shaft.

Thanks guys, yea I just wanted to make sure since I dont want to take the tranny off after I put it on. I guess everything is fine because the alignment tool fit snuggly.

Kind of a general knowledge question, why would the input shaft contact the bushing with one trans & not the other on the same block? What purpose does it serve on the z31?
