BRAKE PADS???

WHat are the best front or rear brake pads??? I have a set of $20 brake pads on the front and rear of my car 93 gxe. The brake dust drives me nuts! I can wash the car and clean the wheels which are stock wheels and rims, and hours later there are signs of brake dust accumulating once again. Which type of brake pads would lower the pressence of brake dust without breaking the bank????

ceramics when properly formulated have virtually 0 dust, but IMO don't stop as well as a good set of semi-metallics

EBC Greenstuff are pretty clean pads...I prefer brakes that really work over brakes that leave my rims cleaner...longer! They're good brakes but I'll take my dusty Hawks HPS over them all day! I'll prefer to have dirty rims over an totally smashed frontend!!!

I usually buy the mid-higher quality pads, rather than the cheapest ones that my local parts store can get from China. the amount of dust i get seems average.

Bendix IQ or Raybestos Quiet Stop or something of that nature is what I'd recommend for a 'non-performance car'. They do great even up to mild hill country runs and are civil around town. low noise, little dust, good performance.

Expect to pay about $40 per set for them. Usually you can get one of the above at your local parts store as their "premium" brake pad choice.

what would you call the 'next step or two up' in the bendix line... ie for those of us who like to take trips to the mountains every so often and do this except more aggressively or drive this stretch <- (vid)? I've never known much about Bendix stuff, but was recently recommended to try them.

ceramics are good if you want clean wheels but you dont like stopping on a dime. Semi-metallics (or especially pads with asbestos) are good if you like stopping on a dime and enjoy black wheels, or cleaning your car weekly. Good luck finding pads with asbestos as they will kill you and are illegal.

Caped, I can't watch the videos where I am now (stupid filters!!), but if you're talking about aggressive mountain runs and whatnot, I'd look at Hawk HPS or Axxis MetalMaster. they're civil enough on the street and don't dust TOO bad, but they'll hold up to a pretty hard run as well.

yea i was originally looking at Hawk HPS but was having a hard time finding anyone that sells them for a z31... i found some here tho http://www.buybrakes.com/ for $66 for the front pair and $60 for the rear pair... sound about right for HPS's?

Yup.. $50/60 a set is about right for the Hawk. Axxis are about $35-45 a set (look in the GD forums), but Hawk is IMO a better pad. I had good results with MM though when I had them on my car 10 years ago.

check with splparts.com and raceshopper.com. There who I usually buy brake pads from. May not be listed on their site for the Z31, but they can usually get them.

thanks... emailed both for a quote, waiting for response.

also was curious if you've heard of Silverstone Modification (ss lines) or G-Stop (might be Goodridge, not sure). Good pads deserve good hoses, amirite?

Never heard of Silverstone.
G-Stop is Goodridge's name for the lines.
I have piles of Technafit lines at the house. probably a set for a 3 gen as well. email Pam at sales@blehmco.com and ask her to check stock (and price) on a set of NIS-1100 brake lines. (NIS-1110 if you have drums, but I'm taking it you don't since you're looking for rear pads and not shoes)

actually it's for my z (2 lines in front, 4 lines in rear), but the topics we're discussing here apply the same way to maximas. we can talk about it in a different location tho (profile message? pm? email?) if you want to keep everything else 3rd gen-specific in here.

Eh.. I don't give a damn anymore (at least not after the week I've had). long as it's helpful information for everyone..
We don't stock Z31 parts, so can't help ya on that part. But the pad selection and general information are the same between cars. Z31 will have a bit better performance pad selection though.

do you get better prices than what's listed on technafit's website? i guess my price is higher than most b/c of the 2 extra short lines.. not too terribly concerned about the very-high-performance pad selection since i'm not gonna track the car anytime soon, and don't expect to see triple-digit speeds very often.

My prices are the same as what's on their website. they give me a few % discount as a dealer (so I can resell at their retail and make a couple %), but I order usually $3000 or so at a time from them..
That said, I don't stock anything but the stock Maxima lines and the stuff to fit my brake kits, so I'd have to order the Z31 lines as well, and essentially you'd get the price that's on their website.
