Anyhow it's the VG30E, not the VE that you're thinking of. VE was only EVER used in the 92-94 SE Maxima.. not the GXE, not any other years, or any other car.
Here's a VG in a Z

i'm actually using the engine from my wrecked 89SE to put in my z31

however someone did begin to put a VE in a older RWD 200sx.... just never finished

one to keep? as in a collector's item? no, definitely not. One to keep, as in, keeping the car? sure.

..... so is the VE just a performance engine nissan made??
From what I understand, they wanted to increase the power of the 92-94 SE cars to compete with the Taurus SHO. The VG30DE (Infiniti J30, z32 n/a) was too big to fit under the hood, and they probably weren't tooled up for a mass-produced aluminum block setup yet (VQ), so they had to stick to what they were ready for right away: another iron block motor. The block is kindasorta like the VG block minus the fact that it's designed for a timing chain, and the heads are kindasorta like VH45DE heads except that they are missing 1 cylinder.

Nissan tried to add a lot of technology into them and it seems like the VE might have been a test engine for stuff they wanted to do later on.
I keep holding on to my car, thinking one day it might be valuable, that day isn't in the near future. I do like driving it, but I get tired of dealing with little headaches. That's true with pretty much any older car, though.
They make good boat anchors.

well... i mean just because something is rare isn't necessarily a reason to keep it. I'd rather have a super-common VG Maxima than a 'rare' this-and-that Civic. But other than the VTC clack issue, I would say that the VE is a good engine to keep not for 'collectibility' reasons, but just because it's a good engine. Whether they made 50 thousand or 50 million.
There aren't enough cliffs in the world that I'd like to throw the engineers that came up with the VTC oiling design off of.
i been driving my VE and it didnt give me any single major problem since 2 years not even once...my VTCs are working perfectly....i have AUTO and i would say it is far more way better than VG auto's plus VE got many upgrades that VG doesn't have for example better injectors and DIS ignition system etc etc,,i abuse my VE almost everyday and its still up running strong and can still take down many cars on the roads....jus maintain it properly and it wouldnt really give u any problems...VE is a better engine than VG in everyway...u cant jus complain about VE jus cuz it has bad VTCs? every engine has its pros and cons and i would rather ground my VTCs than changing injectors and dealing wit slipping or going bad auto transmission on VG everyday...i have VG as well but it doesnt give me the feel i get from VE...not mention at higher rpms VE is capable of toasting many cars on the road including VG...
