0-60 time

I dont know wether this could be due to the fact that i have an auto tranny and/or due to age but yesterday I was testing my 0-60 time on my 92 SE all stock - VE30DE engine. I did it about 3 times, one with a/t on comfort and 2 more with a/t switch on power. I got about 10 sec all 3 times. Now doesnt 10 seem kinda slow to anyone??

That's pretty slow. I think a VG auto does a better 0-60. How were you timing this (with a stopwatch)? Maybe you need to tune your car or something.

I think that 10 seconds may be a little slow, but I'm fairly sure that when car magazines test auto cars to get their fantastic 0-60 times they brake-torque it first (don't try this!). Other tests, say Consumer Reports for example, launch the car from idle, so they publish slower "real world" times. So I know my VE 5speed could do 0-60 in 7 seconds if I flog it, but there's no way I'd try!

I think a VG auto might do 0-60 in about 11 seconds real world and a VE auto in 9 to 10 seconds? Just a guess.

well, if you compare time slips with other cars that do the same qtr mile times as mine, there 0-60's are all in the 7.6-7.8 range...

I go to the back of Motortrend, where the have the Glance at all the road tests and see what the Quarter Mile times are and then find the ones that are within a tenth of mine and then see what there 0-60mph times are like... it's almost always in the 7.6-7.8 sec range, so I just assume that mine is in there somewhere...

although, mine is hardly stock...

no i was timing in my head, ill try it with a stopwatch again though; but what are some simple and cheap tune-ups and light mods i can do to better the time?

I hope you are right. I have an 89 VG 5-spd too, and that seems a tad optimistic. Just a tad.

Well do you know the maintenance history of your car?
1) Throttle body clean will improve response and acceleration a tad.
2) Tune-up if needed: plugs, wires, cap, rotor, etc.
3) Advanced timing to 20 degrees gives more kick but you have to run 93 octane gas.
4) CAI improves lowend (I don't know by how much). It costs $130 or so from Warpspeed Performance.

If basic maintenance has not been kept up with, then you should definitely do it before any mods. It will keep you more satisfied with your car in the long run, and plus you will notice a difference if it needed maintenance.

see exactly what i mean..... this is too funny, thats why i hate posting here now, because most people if their car is slower then it doesnt exist, or its impossible, get your head out of your ***, theres a not a single maxima even a VE tha has beat me, at least the times i raced. When i race against my friends VQ his stays ahead not more then by a 1/4 of a car till about 70 then he takes off and pulls about a car. Dont u think for one sec if most VGs 1/4 mile is about 16.3-16.8 and their usual 0-60 is about 7.8 8.0, and if mine 1/4 mile is 15.9 dont u think it means something.....

you guys are too funny, no offense to anyone but some people just amaze me here every day.
And dont worry maybe your car one day will be as fast if u know what ur doing to your car, its not all about performance, but im sure you already knew that right.

You have nothing more to say? So you pick on my english writing skills? I type and write in school all day, sorry I dont pay my full attention, when I post threads, I do enough paying attention in school and at work. But let me brake it down for you, if you did not understood what I wrote. (I have not raced a VG or a VE that has beat me yet, Im not saying I have the fastest 3rd gen. maxima here, whch im sure I do not. Maybe the maximas I raced weren not tunned at all. I just know I raced my friends VE 5 speed, untill 30 i was beating him by a about a half a car then he caught on at 40 and stayed nose to nose till 60 then we slowed down. He has a K&N Filter thats about it, but in any case. And as far as a VQ I raced a few, I raced one automatic, and he killed me, but that was before my mods. But recently I raced my friends 5 speed VQ he was about a half a car ahead. So know you know my story straight, and in proper english. Do you have any more comments?

OK so thats what I said "if you are faster", then why are you saying thats impossible for me? Thats all im saying, Im no doubting you, im not saying I have the fastest maxima. I just know that my qt is 15.9 basically with very little mods. And my 0-60 is about 7.2 7.3, I never doubt anyone here on this site, unlike some people here. Everyone here is a mechanic all the time and they seem to know how every maxima performs.

I'm sorry, but no VG is going to be running high 15's with "very little mods"! And yes, we are doubting you.

Lol, trust me, we're not jealous in the least. Not hardly. And you may have run a 15.9, we didnt say you didnt. However, I highly doubt you did that with "very little mods", that's all. I also doubt that you run 15.9's consistantly. I bet you usually run low 16's, no?

No that was not measured with a g-tech, it was done in E-town (NJ), untill i get it scanned, because i dont have a scanner at home, so im going to have to find someone to scan it for me, you can go to 1/4 sticky thread and read my 1/4 time.......

people why cant you just face some facts on this site, its either your jealous or your car is too slow. And im not just talking about this thread ive seen alot of people being doubted or questioned. Shish dont you think some people know more then you for once, hell i dont know everything, i dont go and tell people that what ever they say is impossible. Ive seen a VQ do a 13 flat in e-town or wait thats impossible too right? And dont ask what that VQ had i just saw it do a 13, so dont bother me about that. I never got the chance to tlk to the guy. But in any case maybe ill have my time slip scanned by tommorow. I hope u going to shut up then.

Well my mods are Stillen Filter, Aerospeed muffler, and a Stillen Short Shift, Is that alot, hahahha, thats basic 10hp all together if im lucky. Plus the 15.9 was with a full tank and my 17" wheels and no tune up. last tune up was done 30K ago. Actually I ran 15.985, 15.945 16.012 and a 15.922, that was a in the summer, that was the last time i took my car out to the track. I gurantee it will be faster once im done with the tune up and clean the filter and all the basic stuff, and my regular tires and 15" And i frogot to mention what happens if i get the Y-pipe and the UDP and advanced timing it probably be mid 15's ooohhhh wait my bad, thats impossible on this site.

All i asked was a simple question, g-tech exagerations are nothing new, but you have a slip to prove your times so thats wonderful. I would rather you leave me out of your little ****ing contest though, i dont think anything i said in my single post thus far was rude or anything to laugh at,but if you want to see something funny, take a look at your tails......
