Tranny Problem ?

What's up guys, well I was feeling something really weird with the way the tranny was shifting before? I would usually get a shift that would glide into the next gear, or even when i would manual shift i would let off of the gas then put it in 2 from 1 and it would kind of glide .....but before i had it on D and took off from a light slowly and when it shifted into second gear i got kind of a jerk like it slapped into the next gear.... ....im scared the tranny might be going out .......the car only has about 48K miles on...anything i can do to prevent or diagnose this problem? btw this happened for the first time today....Thanks.

Re: Tranny Problem ?

Anybody with fluid recommendations ? Something that might prevent hard shifts ?

I dunno... mine always shifts kinda hard... unless you are on the gas hard which makes it shift smooth. Mine has been shifting the same way for the past 17,000 miles. I use Valvoline Durablend ATF (Semi Synth)

Good luck,

there is a wire right above the tranny that lowers the pressure in your clutch casing. it might be disconnected therfore making shifting harder due to higher pressures.

Is there anyway you can point out where this wire/cable is? cause im really thinking its something of that sort cause this hard shifting sort of came out of nowhere. thanks a lot. BTW, this is a Automatic transmission, hope your not talking about a manual.

He is talking about the dropdown resistor. I believe it's underneath your stock airbox. I don't know exactly where it is. I have never fooled with it and I won't. B/C if you unplug it, it's not good for your tranny and it will die. I doubt it's unplugged, though. Unless, you have messed around with it before.

You said your car has 48K miles on it? Wow! My car was shifting pretty hard, but not clunking. It was at 100K and I got a full tranny fluid flush and the car shifted much smoother and no more hard shifting. The tranny flush is a really good thing to do to your car. I went to Jiffy Lube and they did it in less than 30 minutes for about $85. It was worth it.
