Ode to the VG

Found this on Jalopnik this morning and couldn't resist posting:

Make no mistake, these engines are tough!

VG is a rock solid legendary engine. I still can't believe how smooth they are.

Just a VG with a VLSD 5-speed from a VE...Yeah, I have sunk a lot of money into it in past years, but it is what taught me how to work on cars...

I what I have done and spent is nothing compared to some people on here...*cough* Matt *cough*

The VG30E is my favorite NA engine and the RB26DETT my favorite forced induction

The VG30E is insane though, used in truck/SUV applications (Pathfinder), a sports car (Z31) and sedan (2nd gen/3rd gen Maximas)

that's like..... no. just no.

of all the 3L maxima engines, the VG30E is the weakest. VE at least has some topend. VQ has even better low/midrange power than the VG (and 205 lb/ft compared to our 182 lb/ft of torque).. and then there's the 222HP VQ30DE-K. Loving what you have is fine. But the VG30E is garbage as far as n/a power output. Either cam it and give it 11:1 compression, or boost it. 9:1CR SOHC N/A motor = no power. Only reason i'm putting a VG30E in my Z is cuz that's all i have right now. It's just to buy me time until i can put a built VG33ET in there.

"tough"ness doesn't even matter, really. Not unless you're making enough power to where other, less-tough engines would have already failed. IE like boosting a vq35 without doing internal work.
