highbeam light stuck on?

tonight i got my 3rd gen washed, then a couple hours later i left to rip on the highway since theres no traffic tonight

when i left though, my blue highbeam light on my cluster was lit up, i tried flashing my highbeams and they flashed so my highbeams arent stuck on. when i flashed them, the blue light got a bit brighter. i tried turning off my lights, and with the lights off or in the second setting it doesnt light up but for full driving lights the blue light turns on. on my way back, some n00b in a Saturn cut infront of me, and after i passed him he flashed his highbeams at me, theres a dozen police cruisers in my neighborhood right now about something and i dont know if he was flashing me because i was speeding a bit and he was warning me about the cops or it was because of my highbeams, which arent even on is it my highbeams or just from getting the car washed/being a bit cold outside?

If you can't tell if your highbeams are on you need your license revoked.

Besides this no one knows what the hell the guy in the saturn was thinking. Prolly pissed because you leapfrogged him

nah i know theyre not on but i just dont know if somethings up or its just fawked wiring

later on today i'll see if its still doing it, at this rate i might swap my current cluster with another non-digital before i swap to digital, too much crap on my current cluster is failing from age

well iirc the cluster bulb just taps power from one of the highbeam wires (left one, maybe?) so i don't think it's the switch. maybe a bad ground that accidentally be came a hot or something... weird problem to have.

fk me

i just went out and someone parked right infront of my bumper, i turned on my lights and in the reflection of their back bumper i noticed lefty was out. i whipped around the block, went into the driveway, and though how the heck is it out, since i just bought the bulbs in January

i popped the hood and jiggled around the bulb and it works again, and the blue light is off. if it was out last night i dont know how the heck i didnt notice, but mystery solved. lol

so the blue light only came on when the headlights (lowbeams) were on, right? then consider the following:

the ground-end of the highbeam filament separated from the ground wire, and dangled down onto the lowbeam filament. whenever the lowbeam filament was electrified, current travelled through the dangling highbeam filament, which was still connected to the "hot" high-beam wire, through the socket and harness, all the way back to the joint connector where the blue highbeam indicator light splices in, and lit up the blue light. since there are no diodes involved, current can travel bidirectionally.
