Infiniti I30 HID retrofit build
I'm going to leave the setup this way, since it retains the DRL/highbeam functionality (and I like how it looks). You could certainly if you wanted to, also put HID's into the two inner high-beam bowls, but you will have to do some rewiring, since HID-ballasts won't like running on 6V (when the DRL's are on), and you also can't "flash" your high-beams since the HID's take a few seconds to warm up to full brightness. But IMO, leaving the inners halogen is fine.
As far as the "fog lights" down below, I actually no longer NEED those to see at night which is pretty nice, so I end up leaving them off most of the time. The other nice benefit to this is that the HID's only draw about 35W each, and with the 65W fogs off, it's alot less unnecessary load on the electrical system. I've debated rewiring to have the fog-lights as the running lights a la Audi/European style, but I'm leaving it the way it is for now.
The projectors did end up fitting pretty well into the housings, and I'm really happy with the finished product. It's not hard to do if you can fiberglass and are a little mechanically inclined, but it is time consuming. But absolutely worth it in the end.
Here are a couple pics of the finished front end:
And a gratuitus shot of the car after finally being washed after a month of rain:
he must have manually wired up the running light feature on the inner set of lights
