my buddy has swapped between VG and VE transmissions numerous times. what is different about the hubs?

edit: just called my buddy and he had custom axles made by his axle guy. VG outer CV and VE inner CV. I didn't know that.

that's a pain in the butt if you don't know a custom axle maker like he does. bummer.

the hubs are a bit larger and have a higher spline count.

Thanks for the advice Neoloc, and good find Augustus, but he got one with 60k for $400, not too far from here.. I found it on car part. Grade A, tested and everything. He brought it to the shop already. Hopefully everything works out fine. I actually still didn't get paid for the car fully, thanks to this tranny situation. I knew I shouldn't have did a payment plan with this kid, but I guess thats what you get for being a nice guy.

And you know, I thought about it.. And I was just wondering.. My theory is, that MAYBE it so happened that the gear oil was leaking shortly after he took the car off my hands, and he ran it dry. Could that have helped cause all of this? Cause Im not sure if the leak happened before or after the tranny crunch. So maybe it wasn't his manual skills afterall.

Driving a car with no gear oil in the transmission case? Do you really need confirmation that it could have caused all this?

Can't you check how much oil is left there to confirm or debunk your theory? Or is it too snowy to do that?""

Payment plans are rarely a good idea. You aren't a bank, so don't act like one. I got bit once on a payment plan, after that I put liens on the titles until they paid me off. Plus I only did it with guys who worked with me which meant they had to pay me on payday if they wanted their paycheck

Just for comparison, I was quoted $500 to install a new ISB if I dropped it on his bench...Going to do it in late January.

Ultra ditto on that. I wouldn't even let my best friend buy a car from me on a payment plan. I think I'd only let my twin brother do that

I worked with a guy who used to "rent" cars to people. Most of the time they were shady people and got the cars towed. His abusive wife "worked all year"' to buy an s13 fastback. This chick was about 45 years old, a suspected drug user who scoffed at my offer to buy it from her, calling it her "dream car". Yet she had no idea it was rear wheel drive, and really knew nothing about it. I guess it was just a super nice car compared to what they're used to dealing with. She ended up getting it impounded eventually. Bet she wishes she sold it to me now.. It really wasn't even that nice though, just a stock maroon fastback.. Nicer than his car though, last I checked he was driving a newer Ford Escort with multiple dents to the body, mirror hanging off the door due to multiple fits of rage at the hands of his wife

Yeah, it is too snowy.. It's also too snowy to debunk and confirm your theories. ""

This would be the payment plan conversation if anyone ever asked me for one:

"Would you do a payment plan?"
"Sure, one payment for full price we agreed upon before I give you the car, then no other payments due after that!"
"Oh..."

For the car? Don't remember your deal, but I wouldn't be able to see the car anymore. With it's new owner I can see it when ever I want. And even drive it.

Edit: Oh ok, now I remember.. Glad you didn't get it, eh?

Update: Car is done, but my buddy can't come up with the money to pay the mechanics, so it's gonna stay there till he can He actually messed up one of the axles as well.. Not sure how that happened, but he needed a new one. The guy at the shop said it shifts great though. Had to be reflushed a few times to get the water and crap out he said. He also put a new Duralast clutch set in from AZ Can't wait to test drive it.
