I want pics. And like chrome said, it's probably extremely unsafe to drive unless if he did it right but I doubt it.

So you're saying the J30 Maxima exists as a convertible on the F31 chassis as the Infiniti M30? That's like saying a U12 Stanza convertible exists as a 240sx.. M30 has next to nothing to do with a 3rd gen aside from them both having the VG power. Same engine does not equal same car. If anything, it has more in common with the Stanza mentioned above, or a 2nd gen Maxima because of the body style similarities. But doesn't even have much to do with either of those considering it's RWD.

There's 5 speed M30's that pop up on WA Craigslist from time to time. Usually they're botched jobs. They're trying to sell them for a reason. Always seems to be some guy named Aleks or Viktor who thought a 5 speed swap was remotely related to welding a couple totalled cars back together.

That said, you're right, it probably is an M30. But the ad is for a 92 Maxima convertible..

Bingo... although I they're like an RWD 3rd gen, I believe they're more made to resemble the 80s 200sx equipped with the VG30e IIRC, if it wasn't so late I'd do a quick wiki search but bla

Son, I worked at a junk yard and did many parts cross reference for cars. I clearly remember someone once asking for a steering or suspension part and I told him 89-94 maxima would fit but would check the computer anyway. To my surprise, only m30 and old school 200sx had interchangeable parts

There are quite a few interchangable parts and models.
go find a place that sells project car magazine, read the current issue.
its neat! course, they swap an rb in place of the vg, but what do you expect from some ricer mag (that i shamelessly buy every issue I can )

Most M30 enthusiasts are going to leave the VG in there and bolt up a Z31 trans, I think that's what they should have done for the issue, 5 lug conversion and maybe build up the VG for fun. But it's actually good they didn't, might have started a trend which would suck. I doubt many readers are going to be looking for an M30 and a RB25+tranny to drop into it after seeing the issue..

glancing at the link, I doubt it's a cloth covered hard top. seen a couple around here
but this specifically says convertible.

i just emailed him

I was wondering if you had any pics of the car. The Maxima (all generations, from 1981 to present) has never been offered as anything but a 4-door standard-roof sedan... so I'm curious what the car actually is that you're selling, whether it be a with a cloth ragtop-like roof added on, or maybe an Infiniti M30 or something. Many inquiring minds on Maxima.org want to know

The owner also emailed me a photo after I asked for more details. Clearly was a 240SX. The owner knew nothing about the car. Who knows why she called it a "Maxima".

Everything aside, must be a nice s13 with only 34k miles.. Too bad most of those stock parts aren't worth keeping on it.. Interior is probably clean though.

It looked pretty decent in pics but looked 100% stock to me...as in stock wheels, tires, EVERYTHING original stock so who knows what youll be in for replacing if that's the case. I cant get on my image host here at work or Id post the pics she sent me.

Like 81Max said, she knew NOTHING about the car and said it was "her mothers". They scam a lot in the Chicago area with similar stories when in reality the car is either one they found for cheap and are trying to flip or one that has been "modified" to show low mileage so they can get more money.

Seen it a million times!

A quick look under the hood will be able to tell if it's got 34k or 134k on the clock...
