What causes low idle?

So i have a 94 maxima SE VE 5 spd. My brother and I had switched the motor out and got it running again, but it seems like it idles low. It can be driven on the highway with almost zero problems but since its a 5 spd if you put it in neutral while crusing down a hill, it stalls. Now it does have low compression, We know that for sure, but the maxima the motor was previously in didn't have any problems with stalling.

I think i've found a thread with a related issue but they make it seem like its an injector issue. I'm leaning towards it being a crank angle sensor or camshaft sensor issue, but if i knew the answer i wouldn't be asking for help.

This is the thread i'm talking about
http://forums.maxima.org/3rd-generat...low-speed.html

Any ideas? Thanks guys

Have you tried adjusting your idle?
What about checking the function of the IACV? (Idle air control valve).

The IACV is the first place I'd look for tha tproblem.

If you have a spare engine, pull the IACV off and swap them. It'll take 10-15 minutes to swap and the gasket is about $3 at the dealer if you need a new one.

Its on the side of the rear head. Right under the throttle body.

If I'm not mistaken idle on this engine (VE30DE?) cannot be 'adjusted' as it is hard- coded in ECU program and it uses IACV to control that. If you open some passage to get more air in ECU would close IACV to compensate until it runs out of range, which is not much. At that point you should be able to increase your idle but ECU won't be really stabilizing it as IACV would be completely closed. The 'adjustment' exists to fine- tune idle to put IACV in the middle of its range under normal conditions. Then ECU can stabilize it if conditions change.

Does the car idle normally when you're not driving? Crank angle sensor and Camshaft sensor is the same assembly and if that would go out it would suddenly cut the engine off regardless of rpms.

Well, i adjusted it yesterday and it ran fine. I took it up to autozone (20 min drive), bought some stuff, got back in the car, started it up, but when i put it in gear it stalled. And that kept happening for a few tries. But once it got going it seemed like it was driving great.

Now today i took it out and it was driving horribly. It stalled while driving going downhill soi stopped, popped the hood, and reved the engine using the throttle. It would rev but once you let off, the idle dropped way back down almost to stalling point. I also noticed that the car, when floored in fifth, maxed out at 75-80 going on level ground.
So something is messed up. I searched posts all morning, i thought that it may be a maf problem but it looks like the consensus is that it may be an 02 sensor.

I tend to think its more than that.........but i don't know. I'm having many problems with this car right now. Oh and on a side note. Yesterday i put 20 bucks worth of premium gas in the car. Before that i believe i just had regular in it. Maybe that messed with it? My frustration is building every day with this car......
Any help?
