Stripped Intake manifold bolts on VG engine

I was looking through the threads, but i couldnt find that post on how to go about removing a stripped intake manifold bolt on the VG engine. I was going to purchase an 18volt cordless drill. But I dont know what else to get. i was gonna replace my injectors at least 3 of them but I came across this obstacle, and since the car is immobile, I cant drive around the corner to my mechanic so he can remove the striped intake bolt. Please any help is greatly appreciated.

Although someone on here might have better methods.

Also, places like Advance Auto Parts sell allen key/socket things for ratchets for about $5. Makes the whole process a lot less painful. I think the intake manifold uses 6mm allen bolts.

I had some broken exhaust manifold studs, and it was I think close to $20 for each one they removed. ended up being at least 1/2 of the bill for them to that and a valve grind/seal replacement. They are good at what they do and I would leave something like that up to a professional. You have one shot to get it out, from what I would imagine, and with that soft aluminum, I would not risk it. You may be able to find another one to replace it for cheaper and with less stress. With all of it out, you should polish and port em just for fun! Give us a pic, we may be able to help out a bit more with a visual aid.

Correction: My previous post may be irrelevant considering your bolts still have their heads on them. You might try, after spraying some pb blaster in the threads and maybe even heating them a little bit to ensure that they will turn, using a larger size wrench by wedging it in there, nice and snug, with a soft faced hammer. A tool mentioned by YearOfTheGus would make the job very easy as it has a large flat
surface to strike. I often see sets of these in pawn shops, and you may browse around before buying one for $6 when you could have 8 of them in your box for any future fun. Sorry for the essay on stuff you probably thought of already.

can you take a pic where the stripped bolt/broken bolt is in?
if it's upper piece i can sell you some intake pieces so you don't have to mess w/ drilling things out.

Yah its the upper peice of the intake plenum. Something like the middle one where the 1st spark plug wire hooks onto the plenum. I think its spark plug wire number 2 is the hex screw that is stripped at the head of the bolt.

Drill the allenhead bolt down thru the hex head with a drill the size (after pilot drilling) of the shank then snap the allenhead off....you should have nothing but a stud left and the bolt stud can be removed with vise grips.... good luck!!!! By the way invest in some high quality allen bits or wrenches to prevent this from happening!

yeah i'm with this also.
the allen bolt has a center point so you can just drive a drill through it.

the only piece you'll really ruin is the upper part of the lower intake manifold. OP you let me know if you need a part or something.

pick up some metric allen wrenches in the future.

I've done this a few times.
I bought a set of these...the right size might fit in, otherwise belt the next size up, into the bolt with a hammer.
I got them with a 3/8" drive so I just put them onto my socket and out it came...

These are called a "TORX" bolt or something...I dunno how different these are to Allen bolts, but it did the job for me, I didn't need to drill it out.

EDIT: I also used these going back in, as they don't slip as much as an Allen key..very handy

If you drill it directly in the center you shouldn't damage anything other than the bolt....Good Luck!
