rim refinish opinion

below is a pic of my car and the rims I have, I plan on redoing the rims mostly to remove the curb rashes and scratches and I wanted to know if you guys think I should keep them silver or change the colour ( ie white, gunmetal, black, black with a red lip, etc....)

IMO gold or gunmetal. usually gold looks best on a blue Subaru or white Skyline but i think a black 3rd gen would pull off gold pretty well

I like the silver, looks good with the chrome trim. if you are set on a color change, black with a chrome lip, or gunmetal

with your car color, I would go with bronze or silver. Maybe just a slightly darker shade of silver, like the color of the G35 coupe wheels.

I am going to refinish my 6th gen 17s in gunmetal, but I like that color better with my red car. There is a sticky in the wheels and tires section that has a good how-to. I plan on using that method.

I have the paint and primer, but I need to get some paint stripper to get the clear coat off. My brother-in-law is going to help me bondo the scratches on them and he said if I paint them, he can finish and clear them so they look better. Hopefully, I won't screw it up too bad.

LOL Cliffy. I don't think you have to strip the old coating if it's not peeling.

But I agree, a bronze or a gunmetal bronze would look great

I rocked these for a while. Nobody here much liked them but I still maintain they looked pretty good I should have gotten them in 18's

James, I liked them. just a bit too JDM for me, but I liked them...

As for the OP... My $0.02 is to buy new wheels. For the cost of paying to have them refinished, you can buy some another set of decent wheels. You can also get something in a bit better offset that fills in the fender wells a bit better.

Decent wheels run as cheap as $125 each in a 17x8 at Discount Tire...

They have a few small blemishes/peeling and one of the wheels hit a curb. it kind of burned the clear on it. Plus, I was going to bondo the lip some, at least try to get it smoothed out a bit. That is the only wheel with anything bad, though.

Those are the wheels I got for $100 and sold the tires for $230, so I am still ahead quite a bit. Spending an extra $10 for paint stripper can't hurt.

Oh, does anyone have an idea how to get the Nissan emblem off so I can paint the center cap underneath? It looks like they are kind of "riveted" on with plastic or something.

Well, I had mine off because I was working on the q45t spoiler at the time. The spoiler wasn't finished in those pics (lot of low spots) so I left the middle reflector off because I didn't want to get filler and crap all over it. But, I also had one that I just painted and have rolled with that for a while at times. Years ago, I had a spare trunk lid that I welded in new metal to truly "fill in" the center piece, but I never quite finished and I can't quite remember what became of it

Im planning on popping the nissan logo off my caps and putting them on my SVT caps for the cobra rims i have. I removed one nissan emblem so far, and theres 2 little plastic blisters that i drilled out from the back side (only drilled far enough to get the emblem off of course) It looks like thats what youll have to do, and then re-epoxy the emblem back on and goop up those 2 holes with epoxy - it should give it more bite to affix the emblem back on than just gluing on the surface

Thanks for the tip. I wanted to keep the emblems chrome and not paint them dark like the wheels.
