Spring Maintanence: Oil Filter Comparison Study -

I figured this needed to be posted here (also posted in 5th gen) because the number of people especially here with maintanence issues and proper care of their aging Maxima's.

Recently found this comparison. No official flow numbers and measurement of filtration, but I believe a good article non-the less. Goes over good picks for filters and identifies those you should absolutely avoid! I'll post the results. If you want to read the entire write up, you just click on the links indicated in the article.

Mods - this should add to good info for the stickies...perhaps could be moved there?

Good stuff, this will definitely encourage my purchases in the future, I will read it more to maybe help decipher what is ideal for our 3rd gens, if any info is applicable to such a comparison.

I have always used Napa Gold on the Maxima, which turns out to be the same thing as Wix, which I use on the Corvette. Looks like I can save myself the hassle of finding a Napa amongst all of the O'Reillys and Advance Auto Parts stores in my area.

It would be nice to add in what filters are used by what manufacturer. I mean, Nissan, Toyota, Ford, GM, etc.

I have been using Toyota filters on my Maxima.

Recently, I got a thing from the Nissan dealer for a huge discount and I had the local dealer change my FX35 oil the last two times, since it was only $15 each. I haven't checked what filter they use. I am assuming it's a factory Nissan one.

I have used NAPA gold filters for most everything not from a dealer.

Thanks for the info, I had no idea that oil filters did so much, Ive been just getting any filter, but for the most part, Ive been gettting purolator from pep boys lately, as they have this oil and oil filter deal going on for less than 15 bucks.

On my 3rd gen and 4th gen I've used mainly Purolator PureOne but right now I'm running Mobile 1 oil & filter on the 4th gen. I used to make spiff selling Fram Tough Guard at Murray's which is now O'Reily's lol

WoW thanks alot for the info it was REALLY useful since i've been using FRAM and thought it wouldn't matter what filter i used but that helped ALOT, so i'm guessing doesn't matter what oil to use then?

Since my brother works at PepBoys I usually use Purolator filters. I've accumulated several cases/boxes of ProLine oil and Purolator filters for my Civic on various deals through PepBoys, so I'm stocked on oil changes for probably the next few years on the Civc. But lately, on my Maxima(s), I've been using the WalMart brand SuperTech filters. I've really been pretty surprisingly pleased by them. On one of my VE's I used to get some VTC tick on cold startups and when it's been sitting for a few weeks, but with the SuperTech I get no ticking at all even when it starts up below freezing after sitting for a month plus.

A year or two ago I found a pretty good review that had some pretty positive things to say about the SuperTech filters but I can't find it now and didn't bookmark it
