Japanese Engines

A friend of mine is able to source Japanese domestic market engines. Since I am planning to rebuild my engine within a week, he said it would be less expensive if he was able to get a Japanese VE30DE. He hasn't checked yet, and I don't know where else the VE was used, or if it even was in Japan. I did a little searching on the Cefiro but couldn't get any info. If in fact there is such an engine and he can get it, he also said it may be more powerful than the US version, simply because of emissions standards. Does anyone know anything about this?

you might run introuble with inspection because its a jdm engine and also a friend told me that they had to replace the whole front clip because of the position of the engine in a right hand drive car

The VE was used in Japan and was used in the Maxima. The name didn't change until the 4th Gen when they used Cefiro.

I doubt you will get more power out of these motors than the US spec ones.

It is basically the same engine. Most of the differences must be in the ECU (Correct me if I'm wrong). I have always noticed that the rated outputs of the US versus JDM motors is marginally different. However, in 0 - 60 times, the US spec Maximas are always a good 1 - 2 seconds faster. Maybe it is gearing and weight? I don't know.

However, if you expect to get huge increases in sourcing a JDM motor I think you'll be disapointed. It may be cheaper though.

Re: Ive heard

Thanks a lot guys, I am expecting to hear about the availabilty of the engine within a day or two. I don't really expect any kind of power gains, but it would be kinda cool to have a couple extra ponies under the hood.
