Small motor turning on.
Whats up people? My 94 Max has this weird noise in the rear. Sounds like a small motor that once in a while I will hear. It is coming from underneath the rear. Like where the rear struts or where the well for the spare is.
Is this part of the comfort ride switch?
Also is it every so ofthen come on when the car is parked? Thanks

Fuel pump?
It happens after the cars running? I don't know what the symptoms of a failing fuel pump are...but it's normal to hear it running when you first turn the ignition to on before starting the car.

I've heard this same sound on my 91 SE. I was standing on the drivers side next to the rear wheel. It sounded like a small fish aquarium air pump. I assumed it was something to do with keeping the fuel tank under vacuum for the EVAP emissions system. It only stayed on for about 10-15 seconds.

is it when you turn your key to get ready to start prior to starting?
Because the fuel pump pressurizes the system at that point.
And it sounds like an aquarium air pump. But it shouldn't run for 10-15 seconds, it should run for at most 1 second.
if the car is off and it keeps going it's probably something trying to cool something.

No key in the ignition. Car been sitting for a while till I get rid of my other one. I could be walking up the drive way and I hear it. Just like Negafen said 10 to 15 secounds and sounds like a aquarium pump. Buy the time I go under and pin point it stops. Maybe tommorrow I take a closer look and try to figure it out. Unless someone here knows what it is.

Fuel pump, it's a common sound and I wouldn't worry about it unless it's doing it often. It's not the sonar suspension, SS doesn't have an air compressor as dj tes said. It's not an air ride system, just electronic actuators.
