Car wont start :(

My VG had been playing up for a few days. First off the engine light started comming on and off whilst driving. Then the following day the car would drive for a mile or so, then just die.

I would have to let it sit for awhile before it would start, then it would drive for a bit and die again. Almost as if it was over heating.

Now I have got it back and had a good look over it. Can't see anything out of place (vacumm lines etc) and went to start it again but it's dead.

It will crank and start with a splutter, then there would be a pop from the engine bay and it would die. It wont pick up revs or anything.

Any ideas? I tried pulling codes from the ecu but it doesn't seem to want to go in to mode. Just a red light. Also when I turn ignition to 'on' the fans on the rad start up. They didn't do this before.

Temp sensor maybe?

Just got it to turn over for about 5 seconds. Really rough idle up and down between 1000 & 0 rpm. The engine cuts dead and pops with smoke coming out of air filter.

Im guessing fuel is not being burnt somewhere?

First inspect the CTS (coolant temp sensor) wiring harness plug and cts prongs for corrosion(green crap), if the harness/plug looks good, then replace the cts..

Check the fuel injector connections. those could possibly be corrosion. Had a similar problem with mine, the car ran real rough, clean them and it worked better for awhile. In the end, had to replace a fuel injector.

Got it started but it is real real rough. it splutters up to 1k then revs shoot up to 3k. Pressing the accelerator causes the engine to splutter and die. I have pulled all the spark leads and injector plugs one by one and that made no difference.

There is a loud whistling coming from the rear of the engine which sounds like a vacumm leak but I can't pin point it. Also smells badly of fuel.

Im wondering if one of the injector o-rings is shot. Will have to pull it all to find out.

That would not explain the fans on start up and engine check light? Im guessing that is the CTS. Checked all the boot and that connection was corrosion free and still the same. New CTS over here is nearly $100 !! No VG30's at scrap yard either (hard to get over here)

I have putr a vid up on facebook. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j22u4UkXyoE

You can see the revs sticking around 500 or less for 20 odd seconds. Car is really badly shaking (bang at 37 is bonet slamming shut from vibration)

Revs suddenly shoot up to 2.5k odd without any input on pedals.

At 1.06 the pop is comming from the air intake, but you can hear the engine picking up revs then dying on acceleration.

Sound is not great (have to turn right up). Will try and get a better vid off my proper camera tomorrow as getting dark now.
