Put over 1000 miles on Maxima this weedend!!!!!
Put the 3rd gen thru a gruelling test this weekend by traveling to Louisiana (252 miles oneway) to pickup a loved one, bring them to Houston, then back to Louisiana, and finally return back to Houston....I found it hard to drive this car below 75 mph...I averaged 23 mpg at 75-90 mph and even drove 100+ for extended periods of time......

Sounds great! This is one reason why I am keeping this car around a little longer. It likes to be driven! I love to ride at high speeds, and you are right, it is hard to drive this baby at less than 75mph. I like to keep it at 85-90 on open stretches oh highway, just beware of state troopers. I took my car to Augusta, GA this weekend even though the fuel injectors were acting up, and it wouldnt let me go past 75. Its about a 140mile ride 1 way. I plan to take it down to Florida this summer once I get some new struts. I usually do 500 mile trips in the max, and I get there and back without worrys.

Anyway 23mpg is good for me and all the goodies I have....Even turned the ignition timing more advanced (25 degrees BTDC)to see how it would perform....no pinging yet my boys....Was kinda hot so I ran the a/c and ventured into the 100 mph zone at least 3-4 times for 15mins or so, be performing a compression test on the cylinders just to see how consiistent they are with each other.....I'll drive it like an old lady next time and I'm sure 27 mpg is obtainable.....

I sure like the backwood SC roads! They're mostly in really good shape and not alot of traffic down in the country like Allendale and Pineland, Sc....Lots of nice turns but alot of deer at night....

Yeah you are right about that. The state roads in rural South Carolina are in pretty good shape, especially near Allendale, Bamberg, hampton, and Walterboro. Also near Lake Marion area and the pee dee reigion the roads are not as heavily traveled. I ride about 65-70 on the state and primary roads. I once watched a 3rd gen Maxima beat a 90 model Honda Accord on those back roads. I always liked the 3rd gen.

Just filled up last night after leaving work @ 9 pm....calculated my fuel usage @ the last fill up and I averaged 25 mpg on my return trip and a little in town driving since back....I'm positive that 28 mpg is achieveable if I can lighten up on the accelerator! My midrange is a monster @ part throttle and it just wants you to keep dipping into it more and more!

I'm using my GXE intake, alt. rad. fans, probably a few other electronic items for my VG33ET build for my 85 Turbo, I'm fully expecting my MPG to DROP hard when I'm done, but at that point, who cares? With my 89 NA Z with a VG30E I got 26MPG average from FL to Maine, and that was with it full of crap and having plenty of fun.
