Tranny issues
91 max gxe automatic 201,000 miles. What does it mean when I hit the gas in reverse and the car chatters for a second or two. also has some delays shifting from 1st to 2nd. Torque converter locks up when it suppose to, the tranny solonoids all ohm out as good. revolution sensor has continuity from tcm to sensor and it also ohms out as good, Yet the ride selector switch diagnostics comes up with a bad revolution sensor or revolution sensor circuit. I'm trying to eliminate some stuff before I bring it to a tranny shop. Any ideas what it could be other than a rebuild.

I checked the resistance of the tps and I'm getting the 1 kohm at rest but at mid throttle it's reading open and at ful throttle it also reads open. So I guess the tps is bad or will adjusting it fix the problem.

A bit late for a response...however my 93 maxima se (auto trans) has been having tranny problems as well. I ran the tps sensor diagnostic and the tps failed the test. Maxi was also showing symptoms of bad tps sensor as well.
Tranny problem: In shifting from 2nd to 3rd, the transmission doesn't go directly to 3rd. It slips into neutral and revs up. Upon letting off the accelerator, (to prevent over revving my car) the car then shifts into third gear.
I had also diagnosed the problem as a bad tps sensor, but upon replacement, the fix only solved the loss of power and delay of engine response. Transmission slipping into neutral is still persistent. I'm not sure if tps sensor replacement will help your particular issue. Hope everything went alright with the fix.
I'm still looking for a solution that doesn't involve buying a new tranny if anyone has an idea or two.

the variable circuit of the TPS should never read "open". it should go from 1k to 9k on one pair of pins, and 9k to 1k on the other pair (tho i think the ecu and tcu only care about one of the two paths)

I changed the tps today, it didn't change the shifting problem one bit. So I am gonna bite the bullet and resort to a tranny shop. Normaly I wouldnt bring any of my vehicles in for repair but auto trans problems are not my cup of tea, and i'm getting desperate for my commuter car, My truck uses too much gas and gas prices are rising as we speak. so I'll post back when it's diagnosed..

Sounds great. Good luck with the fix mate. Let us know what the tranny guys think it is. Hopefully it doesn't bust the bank too bad.
Take Care!
