r12 or r134?

Yet again I might be able to get me another car, this is the first I have seen here in Norway that is a '93 model, just seen 89-91 before.

When looking it up in FAST the manufacture date is 12/92.
Iknow they started using R134 in '93, but maybe late '92 also?

Reason for asking is that the seller tells me the A/C is not working, and if it's R12 I cant refill it, but if it's R134 I can..
Maybe I can get him to check the pressure valves, as I have read that on R134 systems the are more like pneumatic valves while R12 looks like big tire valves.

So anyone have any idea when excactly they changed to R134?

my 92 GXE was made in December 1991 but its still a 1992. i would imagine that it has R134 if its listed as a 93 model

There is usually a sticker on top of the compressor, as well as one or two of the stickers on the hood/radiator support that mention the type and amount of refrigerant you need. should be able to tell just by popping the hood.

And yes, the r134a valves are similar to pneumatic valves with a ring that pops on. They're roughly 1/2" (12mm) and 9/16" (14mm) diameter.

The R12 valves are Schrader type valves like a large tire valve.

At least they are on the US models.

My 92' was R12, but somebody was nice enough to throw r134a in there, and then had the nerve to tell me I shouldn't complain when Im getting something for free. So I was stuck with r134a. I heard it's not as strong as r12.

Do those r134 cans I saw at AZ really work?

That I dont know... I just bought the refrigerant cans alone since I have a the Gauge Manifold for R134a and an air powered vacuum to evac the system... I'm sure they wouldn't sell non working gauges on those cans
