Lowering Springs

I'm thinking about installing K-sport lowering springs on my 89' GXE. I have Sonar suspension on my Max and the struts are still very good but I want to lower it a bit without changing or should I say buy new struts. I'm concerned that I might blow my struts out though if I lower springs too much. Does anyone think it would blow struts out or does anyone know of springs that only lower about a inch instead of 2 inches? I just recently put new front axles, lower ball joints, sway bar links and front strut tower brace. I really want my Max to ride tight/comfortable but not over do it or **** things up. This is my first FWD that I'm attempting to lower, mostly worked with RWD American Muscle cars. Anyway any info/suggestions or what you've done is appreciated.

Ben was ready to kill me i think for asking so many questions on this

i ordered Ksports myself and they came today, you need Tokico or Koni struts or else you most likely will blow your current ones. really i have heard nothing but bad with lots besides Eibach or Ksport. i can order my Tokico struts in a couple weeks and then im set

IIRC Koni's are no longer made for our cars. So you will have to find a place which has them in stock still.

the sonar will have to go, in favor of better struts. Sorry, no other option, aside from letting the stockers blow.

My KYB GR2's w/ the ST's are smooth, slightly firmer than stock and the stance is noticeably lower than stock!

Just curious, are these sonar suspensions available aftermarket, and how much? Never rode in a 3rd gen with this electronic suspension.

I like the GR2 ride but the quality of their REAR struts seem to be garbage. I have them on both my 3rd and 4th gen. Took 15k miles before I had to replace the rears on the 3rd gen. And the 4th gen is lowered on Progress springs 1.5/1.3 drop and the rears are already blown, however those were purchased used with "5k" miles on them and they look brand new too. I've never had problems with the front though.. odd

I've tried to find them after market to replace when needed to no avail. There excellent as far as i'm concerened, a better ride than the SE or GXE non Sonar. Unfortunately our Maxima's our too old to find them aftermarket, just Nissan has them for 400 a piece. I'm changing everything around them since there still in good condition with 150 on my 89'. I put in new lower ball joints, front axles, sway bar links, upper strut mounts, front strut tower brace and springs are next. I think I'm gonna just replace springs with stock ones since sport mode lowers height a bit anyway. Does anyone have any suggestions for stock height springs??? Yeah I like the Sonar option and not willing to change to regular struts since mine function very well. I guess lowering will be done when struts are shot but I heard the electronic struts last.

Progress are 1.75" front/ 1.5" rear.....how much did you cut your 3rd gen bumper stops?

Houston has IMO opinion decent roads, but we do have some bad ones....and I've taken them down some bad ones to make sure everything is adjusted right....The rears when loaded down (luggage in trunk) tend to drop more than my Progress springs and the ST doesn't seem to oscillate as well as the Progress rear springs/strut....I have 5K on this car since replacing almost everything! with the driver and 1 passenger the car handles bad roads even better......I'll raise the rear end up with my poly coil spring isolators between the strut and springs.

I guess I should've been more specific, the drop is on the 4th gen and its 1.5/1.3 as far as I know.

That's a different spring from what I have. Mine are aqua colored...either these are superseded ones or I'm a victim of bootleg springs

Last time I looked my springs up there was a picture of the same color as mine (aqua) were listed as Progress, AND they stated 1.3/1.5 and you can tell by the pics that its not that low. Help me find mine!

I had those same springs when I bought the Cattman AGX/Progress setup which is a 4th gen setup with modified front struts to fit the 5th gens....I have the original specs from the yr 2000 when they hit the scene....but anyway they're now Grey and the springs have a different amount of coil windings......I was able to compare them side by side and according to one of the engineers there are revisions made during production....IIRC the newer have less coil windings.....http://www.cattman.com/ this website is ultra old!
