rear manifold heat shield

Changed the rear manifold the other day but I still was getting a clicking noise from the rear. I checked it for warpage and all is well. The leak sounds like it is coming from underneath the heat shield. The shield was attached solid when I had it off. There was no way to check under it for leakage. Has anyone had this problem before? I changed out the front one too. It appears to be fine.

tks in adv,

Sounds like you need exhaust manifold studs

Are you talking about the three studs attached at the end of the manifold? They appeared to be good and everything bolted up fine. I do believe the manifold is cracked under the heat shield, but I have no way of checking it out unless I pull it again and remove the shield. Has anyone else ran into this problem?

tks,

Well the rear manifold has cracked twice in the areas under the heat shield which had to be taken off to weld. Exhaust wrap was used in place of the shield though.

But I have to replace the manifold now since it's warped at the top end. No use the fix a manifold that is bound to crack again....
