VG and VE hubs??

Jus wanted to know if VE and VG engines have the same hubs? My passenger side wheel bearing is going bad and I was thinking of picking one up from the junk yard. But how can you tell if you are getting a good hub with a good wheel bearing? Then too I was thinking that since a new bearing is only like $35 bucks, then its going to cost me another $35 bucks to get the bearing pressed in I should do it that way. But I dont know. I just did the driver side, with a new bearing, and turns out it was the wrong side! LOL.

ohhh ok, So i guess I will get one from a Vg then since they are only like $20 bucks from the pull a part, but then I like the way the new bearing feels on the driver side, plus i dont want to grab one from the junk yard with a bent dust cover like I have on the driver side( makes too much noise at times)

You might as well get a new one and be done with it. Its not expensive and its brand new vs used. With the used you'll never know when it go out and you'll be back at square 1.

ya for 60 bucks well worth the new one vs old. You can always bend the dust shield back out of the way

yah thats tru, at least buying new I will get a new feeling like I have now on the driver side, and then I will only have to replace the strut mount on the passenger side. Thanks for the advice guys, and by the way I saved a lot of $$$ by taking the hub off myself, and taking it to a shop to have the bearing pressed in LOL. A shop around here would have charged me at least almost $200 for that one side alone!

i just took my dust shields off didn't seem to hurt the brakes at all but if you drive on dirt roads alot you may find them useful.

yah thats What I was thinking of doing myself. I have my passenger side dust shield removed already, but the driver side is getting so annoying now. I have by all means, tried to bend it back off of the rotor, but it somehow seems to get louder with each try to the point that I can hear it at highway speeds going down the interstate. Its even worse driving in the city! What is the best method to remove this thing?

if you have the hub off for a wheelbearing change that's the best time. otherwise try getting a dremel or some metal snips and just being careful where you cut.

Well im hoping that there is an easier method to remove the thing, because I dont have a dremel but I do have a hammer. I may just have to pay someone to remove it like I did on the passenger side.

JUst another question, am I supposed to put grease in the part of the wheel bearing that the cv joint sits in when installing a new bearing? Or do I just leave it alone?

im not sure if the bearing is sealed since the knuckle has a seal, but if the bearing is exposed, grease it. the cv joint should slide into the hub.

also why do you think you have a bad wheel bearing?
the best way to tell is to jack it up, grab the strut spring and spin the wheel. there will be no vibrations front the spring if it's good. if it's bad itll feel like a skateboard going down the street. best example i could think of.
