How many of you...

How many of you are using synthetic oil? And For those who are using them, is it leaking thru your seals?

I ran it on my 4th gen with with 333k miles and noticed that I would be about 1/2 to 3/4 quart low after 1000 miles or so... went back to Castrol Syntec Blend which is not fully synthetic and I'm all good

I'm using Mobil 0w Synthetic (I know it's a gimmic)

But so far. no excessive leaking as I already have bad valve gaskets.

um isn't 0w a bit runny? the owner's manual only states to use 10w and 5w oils depending on climate...

Yes, as soon I as I put it in the VE (around 130k miles) it immediately started leaking out of the front valve cover (where it did not look as if it had a leak before), crank seal, and camshaft position sensor seal. In hindsight I guess it was a good way to weed them out. Replaced all three for less than $40.

edit: no loss of oil or burning between changes as far as internal leaks..

I have been running Mobil1 for a while and I had a leak in one of the camshaft seals until I replaced it in January along with the timing belt. But I'm still losing oil and I'm noticing the power steering pulley adjusting bolt still getting wet with oil. So I will be taking a look at that seal when I re-check the timing belt.

i ran royal purple full synthetic for about 2 years granted i only put about 9k miles on my car a year and it has been a great oil i really didnt burn much at all during my 3k mile runs...recently in my newer motor that i jsut has installed i put in the castrol 20w non synthetic, actually it was a mistake i didnt mean to grab 20w usually i run 5w but anyway it doesnt seem to be too thick at all especially in this hto weather but im going to get it out of there asap...

My 2001 has had Mobil 1 since new, according to the original owner.

As far as I can tell so far (1 week and 400 miles) no oil leaks or consumption.

Its the summer time and my cars running with Valvoline SAE 5w-30 FULL SYNTHETIC motor oil (You know.., the one with the 300,000 Mile Engine Guarantee).. and its leaking ..oil..definitely.

Using 10w-30 , as well as it being NON SYNTHETIC make this oil leak go away? The thing is leaky like crazy. Where I park my car theres oil spots everywhere like ****.

Going back to traditional oil won't "fix" your problem, but it may improve the symptoms. Synthetic does NOT "create" oil leaks but definitely can/will exacerbate any small/existing oil leaks

I've been running a synthetic blend for a year and have only positive results since. I changed her over at about 135,000 and now she has round 150. I figured a synthetic blend would be better at first instead of fully synthetic since she's been running conventional all her life but she has low miles for a third gen Max.

synthetic oil had nothing to do with oil leaks. i recently changed the front crank seal and valve cover gaskets from a leak. rubber will break down with 20 years of heating up and cooling down.
also i just run castrol works for me
