I don't think either of those are real cats. Just so you know.
cats are expensive, for a reason.

You can get a direct bolt on cat from rock auto for about $100... If you won't even pay that for proper emissions equipment then don't bother..

Number two is at least a "real" cat, so get that if anything. But then you'd need to get flanges welded onto it which could cost you ~50 bucks..

I was on the fence if I wanted to sell it because it was so nice.

The same with the exhaust. Someone wanted to buy just the chrome tips, but when I got underneath the car it was totally perfect and I couldn't bring myself to take it apart. The whole cat-back is being stored, along with the interior (front, rear seats and center console w/armrest) because it would have broken my heart to send them to the scrap yard.

To the OP: I would suggest getting everything correct that bolts on. If you have a y-pipe and the cat back with the correct flange, you should not have to do any welding (except maybe the muffler or any custom piping past the cat. I would make sure the correct flange is there so you could put in the stock cat if you can find one.

I am sure warpspeed sells a high flow cat that bolts on directly with no welding or you can check junkyards for a stock one.

I went with a magnaflow 2.5" I don't have to worry about emissions. Think it cost me around $70 plus shipping.

Again the warpspeed ceramic or stainless steel are available with welded on flanges and will bolt directly to the Oem ypipe and catback, you'd have to be on drugs to weld in anything like the cat.....if you ever need to disassembly your exhaust during maintenance you're focked!!!!! 2.5" are availalbe.....If you do get option #1 get it in a 2.5" design and sent it to Warpspeed for some flanges.....

I bought a hi flow cat from someone a few years back and stuck the OE cat in the chop saw and used it for flanges. voila. but then again I have the tools and skills to weld together my own exhaust....

That's good. I was just trying to be helpful. In the long run, it's best if you can bolt stuff on. Once it's welded together (like a cat to your y-pipe) it's a lot harder to do anything yourself.

yea it makes sense, i appreciate it. its that i neva had this problem b4 wit any car so its all new to me. reason i was i looking into a universal was cuz the guy @ the muffler shop said he can cut the flange off my y-pipe and weld it to the uni-cat and also cuz they where cheaper than what napa was charging for a cat.

can i do the y-pipe and cat my self since its bolted on? or should i just get it all done by the shop since i have to get my resonator pipe n muffler put on?

jack stands, or ramps, either/or. do not work under jacks.
pb blaster is like wd-40, a lubricant, but it's thicker, and seems to penetrate rusty bolts a lot better. should be available at most auto parts stores.

it's simple to unbolt and bolt on new when the bolts are in good shape. when the bolts are so rusty that they don't look like a bolt anymore and you have to saw them off that's when it gets interesting. it's doable...just a little more work.
since the cars are so old prepare to do that when you're working on the exhaust.

you don't have to "rinse" out the exhaust. if you want you can do it...but it's really not a huge deal unless you have a lot of crud in the pipes.

we don't really get much rust here, so all of the y-pipes I have done have been very easy to do myself. Don't forget you need to get the gaskets, too. They are cheap at NAPA.

yea it was a new york car so its rusted to hell lol
im in south carolina now so i wont have to worry bout it once its all changed.
my y pipe came with the gaskets so i guess ill probably need 1 more.

b4 i drove down here i changed all the belts, water pump, control arms, inner and outter tie rods. im looking into gettin good struts plus i wonna drop the car once i put 18''s on her.

all i really need now is replace 2 injectors and all 4 motor mounts, i have all the parts jus need to get em done.
