Throw out bearing install. Need Help

I have a 93 Maxima SE VE30DE which i will be replaceing the clutch with a Exedy Stage 1 kit.
When i was getting the flywheel resurfaced my buddy was at my house getting the tranny all cleaned up. He decided to pull the TOB out and replace it with the Exedy one. He then realized that it had to be put on in a certain way and he didn't remember how the old TOB was when he pulled it off. I know that the bearing part is what gets pushed onto the pressure plate, but i don't know which way the notch, that is on both end of the TOB suppose to face. Is the opening suppose to face in the fork or out? I have pics

I would think the grooves go toward the lever! But I can't find a real good illustration to back up my opinion....take a picture of the lever and whatever other parts are involved......

before anyone else goes browsing their FSM, it only says to note how it is facing.
it's kinda useless for this question.

Ahh, this always happens to me as well. And then I kick myself for not taking a picture of how it was on there. Digging through my hoard of pictures, I found these.

This is when the TOB from my "Exedy" clutch destroyed itself:

So, judging from these pics, it looks like it orients this way.

Thanks for the help guys. I found out how it's suppose go in, it's the way how James92SE illustrated it. BTW James92SE, how did your TOB end up like that and how many miles was on it until it happened?

Thanks
Jason

Well, the TOB ended up like that because it was an inferior POS. The tabs were just so weak that the constant pulling up with the fork just started to shear the tabs right off.

Also, just to be clear, the TOB in those pics is the TOB came with my Exedy Stage 1 kit (same kit you just installed!) that I bought on the original group deal on here a few years back.

I don't remember how many miles or how long exactly it lasted (about two years according to my thread), but I know for darn sure it didn't even last 20k miles (I never put over 10k miles on the car in any single year - only put on about 50k miles in over 7 years of owning it).

I found my thread about it:

http://forums.maxima.org/general-max...years-ago.html

Looks like a 4th gen guy had his Exedy-supplied TOB crap out as well.

My Exedy pressure plate started to crap out on me as well (see the thread).

If I were you, I might just bite the bullet now and stick in an OEM Nissan TOB.

I know the vast majority of Max.org homers swear by the Exedy "Stage 1" kits being sold on here, but I'm half convinced they're either fakes, or just OEM replacement style kits being pawned off as "Stage 1" kits. The quality just is flat not that great to supposedly be a beefed up kit. Of course, who knows, maybe a portion of the ones being sold on here are fakes and the sellers don't even know it since fake Exedy's are so rampant.

For what it's worth, my Exedy "Stage 1" kit I bought on here for $225+ looked identical to the $80 eBay stock replacement Exedy kit I stuck in my blue VE earlier this year.

Wow I'm defiantly going to get the OEM TOB. I'm gonna call some dealership around me if they have any TOB, but where else can i find the oem TOB besides courtesyparts.com, they flagged the TOB?

Thanks

Before I sold my old black VE earlier this year, it had developed a TOB rattle (it was a LuK replacement clutch that I put in after the Exedy). The bearing itself wasn't bad, just rattled in neutral, so I replaced it just because I didn't want the buyer to be worried/paranoid about a rattle in the tranny.

Since I was in a rush, I just got a TOB at O'Reillys. And that sucker was BEEFY and solid, and didn't make one peep after installing it.

This is the one I got:

http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/de...1330&ppt=C0015

Anyway, if you can't find an OEM one (or they're outrageously inexpensive), I wouldn't hesitate to use that BCA one from O'Reillys. Assuming you have O'Reillys there

+1 for using OEM or good quality TOB. I was using one that came with a replacement clutch that snapped and left me stranded.

If you cant find an OEM one, you might be able to press the old bearing out of the OEM housing and press the aftermarket bearing in.
