CLutch Problem

so i found my maxima one morning not being able to shift. my clutch was all the pressed/engaged all the way in and it wouldnt depress like it used to. so i popped the hood, found the reservoir empty. i then suspected it could be a leak. but still i went ahead and refilled it to see if it will still go empty and then be 100% sure its a leak. a week later it did (surprise it took that long)

anyways, i have no idea how the clutch system works and its parts. but i always here that if its a clutch leak its a line thats leaking. so my question is how hard is it to replace this or should i just go ahead and let a mechanic work on it. tnx

It's either leaking from your clutch master cylinder (where the reservoir is), or at the slave cylinder.

It's pretty unlikely that an actual line is leaking unless it experienced some trauma though I suppose it is possible

You'll have to do some snooping around to see where it's leaking. It should be fairly obvious which is leaking because, well, there'll be evidence of clutch/brake fluid dripping/leaking at one of the locations

You COULD just replace both the master cylinder and slave cylinder at the same time. You can get both for about $30 ($13 for the master cylinder and $7 for the slave cylinder at RockAuto.com), so you might as well do both at the same time

It's not a hard job to do. If you're at all mechanically inclined you can do it, but you'll need a helper to help you bleed them

James it is also a possibility that the upper hard line, pressure equalizer block, or it's bleeder valve or cooling line that coils or the hard line after the equalizer or rubber line that connects to the lower hard line at top of transmission could be leaking basically there is seven different spots it could leak from. I know it's seven parts as im replacing my entire clutch system to prevent early failer.

Yeah I know it's possible, just highly unlikely unless the lines have received some trauma or are corroded excessively. I mean they don't just spring leaks randomly

99% guarantee it's the clutch master or slave cylinder and not a line. In my experience the slave cylinders are more prone to leaking

Im replacing all the clutch system just to not deal with any problems later plus im switching all fluids to full synthetic oils. Full clutch system replaced is around $100 that is both master and slave clutch cylinders plus the lines that connect one cylinder to the other.
