ABS problem -- Please help!

I have a 91 SE auto with about 200k on it. It has been well taken care of and still running strong. Recently, the ABS is acting up now. The symptoms:
1. The ABS applys "automaticaly" when braking at low speed (car is not slipping of course).
2. The ABS indicator light was on a couple of times (not always).
3. The shifter is locked at parking and the release button has to be pushed for shifting and once it leaves the parking position it will be fine. (Just happened yeasterday).

I suspect this is ABS realted but could also be a break problem? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Young

fpr the abs problems, pull off each wheel and the brake rotors and clean the sensors and the gear teeth with compressed air or something.. see if that helps the problem with the ABS.

the shift lock problem sounds more like a bad shifter bushing, but I'm not too familiar with that.

when it happens...

When the abs light comes on, get the codes from the computer, and compare them to the FSM, and that will tell you exactly what your problem is... As for the shifter I believe its just a relay, I could be wrong on that one... I dont think that they woudl be related

When was the last time that the brake system was flushed with fresh brake fluid? Brake fluid absorbs water over time which causes corrosion in the brake system. ABS systems are particularly sensitive to this. The brake fluid should be changed every couple of years.

the shifter= check the sliding lock mechanism..it should be a cable that runs from the brake pedal to the shifter..there should be an adjustment on it..adjust it or if its broke replace it..to me it just sounds like it needs to be adjusted.
abs=check the sensors first and clean em like Matt93SE said if that dont fix it you could just have a bad sensor easy to replace not sure on the price..also you can take it to a shop or dealer "if funds allow" and have them check the abs computer and compressor.. i had a a problem like this on a mitsu diamante and his problem was the abs computer not cheap in any means of the word can you say 2300.00 so needless to say he didnt fix it. it was causing any driveability problems just had an annoying yellow light sometimes blinding him.. also try the other things everyone else said they all can help if not fix it...

Re: ABS problem -- Please help!

shifter locked in parking ,maybe no signal to the solenoid from
the anti lock unit.
lock unit needs also a signal from a small switch near your
break pedal
