Maxima-less driver

After a long time of mourning and beating myself for having to do it, my 3rd gen was sold to (I dare say it) Carmax in August 14th of this year. I apologize for not having come here first to sell it, but I got into a bit of a bind with insurance and it had to leave pronto... .
All in all, I have to say that it was great getting the advice from all you guys on here whenever it came to any problems I ran into with that wonderful machine and I only hope to get another 3rd gen SE 5speed someday. For now, I intend to sit tight and gather up my funds so I will be better prepared for a project later on down the road.

So Craig's old VE is sitting at a CarMax right now?

I'm surprised they'd even buy it, honestly. What'd they give you for it?

That's a bummer.

I wish more 3rd gen enthusiasts lived in Oregon. There are always good ones on CL and my wife just keeps grabbing the checkbook every time she sees me looking.

yeah they always have lots of third gens down here for between $500 and $600 bucks. Problay just small issues like fuel injectors that are wrong with them and most people charge so much money to replace them, or let alone charge alot of $$$ to do any type of work on these cars.

Ugh, you don't want to know...it was a good smack in the face of $500. Sadly, I put 12 times that into it. Needless to say, I was not a real happy guy walking out of there. I realize that I was not going to get anything above $1500 (if I was lucky), but $500 is just insulting.

Sounds like I need to search out there where you guys are if they are going for that cheap and require the small fixes to get them running again! Damn! Of course, in SC, if you are below the salt belt, you will find something nice most of the time anyway, no?

I would've given you $501.25 and bought you a sandwich. Why in Hell's name would you sell out like that and have the ***** to come here and advertise your failure...there is no redemption here for you dude. It's mostly the low end crowd driving the 3rd Gen these days. People who would rather sell than fix or sort out their short comings. The unworthy I call them .

I will admit, it took me some time to come on here and admit my failure, but at the end of the day, it takes a man to say that he screwed up and learned something from it all.
At the same time, it was not something I was openly willing to do considering the time and energy I put into obtaining that fine machine in the first place. Believe me, there are many folks who can vouch for me on that too.

Spoken like a man...well next time consult with your fellow 3rd gen-ers before you run off and do a thing like that. A lot of VG boys would have liked to own that machine.

I know. I am still kicking myself real hard for not having come here first. I made an old mistake and assumed that there was no one close enough to Columbus OH willing to pick it up for me. As we all know, "to assume makes an '***' of 'u' and 'me'."

It is not something that I particularly pride myself on. I am as well...live and learn though! I shan't make the same mistake twice!

How about someone go pick it up quick before the jy gets it instead of complaining about it being gone. Yes he made a mistake but If I were close and had the money I would grab it. I could use it a template for others on here and post the pics that were lost on Craig's site.

Wow, well, I can't say I'm surpised. Carmax absolutely rips you on older cars.

About 8-9 years ago, my friend tried to sell her S13 240SX in great shape to Carmax and they offered her $240!

You likely could have gotten $1500 +. IIRC, Craigs car was always in pretty good shape. Earlier this year, I sold one of my black VE 5's with 197k miles, cracked windshield, and faded paint all over the top of the car for $1850

I picked up a ticket this week with the VE for a little over half of what you got for her. Got a little carried away testing my new suspension .

Sounds like a good idea. Of course, they said that it would go to an auction as they said that they "didn't think that they would get much for it." My idiocy at its finest. At this point someone has probably picked it up by now...

That they did! $240 for a 240? Sort of ironic no? Please tell me she go with that deal...
In terms of Craigs car, it was not exactly showman's quality...it was missing about 33% of the clear coat, the rear right quarter panel of the car was pretty much rebuilt with bondo and was done so well, the rear right door (once from a white Maxima - black paint was peeling) and the trunk lid didn't really line up all the well. Trunk leaked a bit in the rain. There were no original side mirrors on the car when I got it (driver's side was from a beige
GXE with the heated feature, pass. side was from an SE without the heated feature. Changed that one out real fast). Despite the small details, it was a mechanically sound car! The only thing I had to do the whole time I had this machine was rebuild the transmission, put in new fuel injectors, NGK spark plugs (there were Bosch in there when I got it), and replace the ABS solenoid (that ran my battery down completely one evening when I shut the car off, but didn't hear the solenoid continue to fire. Made for a fun project to wake up to in the morning!). Bear in mind, this was all over the course of 2 years and about 25,000 miles on a car that had approximately 183,000 when I got it. Loved driving that beast all the same! Schooled some clowns in some ricer Civics while I was at it.

Dang man...that would be a powerful expensive ticket! Were you able to pull some serious G's at least? What did you do with your suspension?

you all can find ve's and vg's on craigslist like i Found a 93 se ve auto for $3,000 with leather interior mint condition and only 145k miles. Since my brother is sick of his Chrysler LHS he rather have something that isnt as over engineered as that POS Chrysler made.

Wish I had the sort of luck you did finding that 93 SE. All the ones around here are beat to sh*t, poorly maintained interiors, and barely running.
