Yet another E36 install

Hey whats up guys, I just put in some e36 euro projectors. These are the ones from procarparts . The install took about 20 hours total, with around 15 of those just gettin the first light to fit! The only real fitment problem I had was getting the grille in, I had to shave down the edges quite a bit, and I didnt mount the top clips as you can see from the pics. All in all, I think it was worth it, and the light output at night is 150% than stock. The city lights are pretty cool too.

yea the black housing looks much better than the chrome ive seen in most of the euro e36's..

though i wonder which is easier to use, the bmw brackets or max brackets.. did you try the max brackets first or just popped them in right with the bmws?

Thanks for the comments guys! Maximan- The light housing actually had the BMW mounts molded into it, so I had to cut them off for fitment. The stock max bracket was even too small, so the only pieces left of it are the every edge where the corner snaps in and a small piece that holds the grille in on the bottom, which I had to bend. I bought some extra-long screws that go on the side to hold the factory bracket in, and I drilled holes into the light housing and bolted them up there.

No, I'll probably buy some when the wallet permits. The things in the lights are just reflectors

They were like 185 or so.

How hard is this to do? Everyone seems to be doing it.

Also, are they still adjustable so you can aim them properly?

The first light was pretty hard to do because I didnt know what to cut. These are also the euro lights, so they are alot bigger than the US spec lights, which is what most people are doing. These are adjustable, there are two screws you can turn with an allan wrench in the back.

Wow those look REALLY good! Are those the H1 bulb, glass front lens ellipsoid lights? Where'd you get them?

Once again, nice work on the lights.

Yeah these have the glass housings. To tell you the truth, I'm not really sure what kind of bulbs are in them. The housing says H1 but I believe that they are H7 bulbs.

Really clean install, do you remember the part number from procarparts? So you can really notice a difference in the lighting at night? Thanks,

Is there a really distinct cutoff if you shine the lights against a wall?

I've searched and searched, is there anywhere on this forum of a detailed writeup of this mod? I don't need to be cutting into something based off of a hunch. Everything i search just has people asking the same questions and then others telling them to search. -talk about a vicious circle.

The part number is BMW-E36-9298-BKCL-XXXX-PJ2X. Its under the projector headlights section. Yeah, they definately light up the road nicely, the beam pattern is pretty wide too. The cutoff is really sharp, it also steps up at the far right of the beam on both bulbs. There is a cool rainbow halo at the cutoff too As for a writeup, I dont think there is one for the euro lights. Its all pretty much the same though, just have to cut alot more and figure out a way to mount em without the stock max bracket.

You can usually tweak your cutoff section by moving the light up and down inside the projector. You can make it so it's a pretty distinct cutoff (moreso with HID's than halogens though). Check up on hidforum.com for more info there.

Are you able to adjust your headlights pretty well, or are they more or less bolted onto the car?

BTW, post night pics!

Hats off man, that's what I call clean.

At procarparts.com - What did you think about those LED type, angel eye knock offs? Suspect quality aside, I don't really like the fact that they're blue. Oh well...

Also, what options do you have for the ellipsoid? Is it just for show or can you drop in a bulb? None of the animated GIFs of the lights actually demonstrate the ellipsoids, which is fine if they're not included - but you never know.

Thanks again for the positive comments! Adjusting the lights is easy, there are two spots to use a big allan wrench to move them up/down and left/right.

amaxima- I'm not really sure what you mean by ellipsoid options. What part of the light are you talking about? If I do get angel eyes, it'll be the DDE. They are expensive, but look really cool.

P.S.- I'll try and have night pics up this Thursday

Ellipsoid = projectors.

You have the ellipsoid lights.

It's all good, your 3rd pic demonstrates what I was asking - the ellipsoid lens can be made functional.

Thanks for the follow-up.

E36 headlights aren't made to put HID's in them. Have any of you all even seen what an HID bulb looks like? Ask anyone with E36 euro projectors that have put HID's on them they all for the most part have put in projectors from audi's and acura tsx or was it TL's.

Very nice angel eyes!

Wow this thread is nostalgic HIDs can work, depending on which E36 light you use... USDM vs Euro. I was running D2S HID bulbs in my setup, I just needed to use an adapter to fit the bulbs as the lights were originally equipped with H7's. The USDM E36 lights probably wouldnt work very well though, as the beam pattern might be off. To your point though, the Acura projectors would have a very good output and quite a few people use them for retrofits.

The e36 headlights your running are aftermarkets as were im running factory true European E36's. I like the way the ones from Europe look like better then usdm or aftermarket.
