new parts!

I received some aftermarket parts today and I'm pretty impressed. The new grille ~$40 is different from stock in that the rungs are not chromed, I'm sure it was cheaper to make it that way, but it looks much better than my beat up grille:

Also got a new headlight switch for $50 bucks. It looks exaclty like OEM. For some reason I have fought with my switch for years thinking the only one available was the expensive OEM.

Also got a new headlight ~$50 for my wrecked '93, it also seems made well (its nice and heavy.)

I've always been afraid of aftermarket stuff like this, but I think I'm hooked now!

From the little bit I can see of the grille it looks fine, yeah I like quality when it comes to my auto's but just because it's not Nissan doesn't mean it's not good. Could you post pics of the parts installed on your Max, especially the grille...I'm thinking about replacing my grille and would like the info or link to where you got yours from, good look.

Would also like to see that grille on your car. All the aftermarket 3rd gen grilles I've seen over the years (and I used to buy alot back when I was making/selling custom mesh grilles) dipped down real bad in the middle on the very top and looked bad when installed

Don't laugh at my illegitimate headlight wipers!

I also got a new turn signal for the '93 wreck, it looks better than the foggy old ones. Its a different design and has an LEDish, crystalized look when illuminated and its a helluva lot brighter than the old. I will be ordering 2 more of these for the 1994 just for looks:

And Teslette, your car is sharp! I'm going to have my front fascia replaced and the hood painted soon, then my headlight wipers are gonna get the ax because I never bothered to wire them in (many years/drugs ago.)

Miscellaneous...dealer specific items, gaskets, seals, nuts, bolts, brackets, etc.
The tranny goes in as soon as the weather permits.

How much the tranny set you back? Is it the "new" $3000+ tranny?

Okay I'm terrible at keeping up with forums. The parts I bought recently came from partsgeek.com. I didn't want to seem like I was plugging a site, so I omitted that. Basically just go to shopping.google.com and type something like "1994 nissan maxima turn" and a ton of results will pop up. People operate 'sales sites' which have relationships which actual warehouses. So essentially it doesn't matter who you order from, the part might come from any warehouse. The upside of this is you just order from the site that has the best layout and its on your doorstoop in 3 days, the downside is you're never sure what you get. My grille was made in Thailand and shipped from Charlotte, the headlight switch was made in Japan and shipped from Ohio. You just don't know, but at the prices I'm paying it wouldn't matter if every 5th part was a dud.

The headlight wipers are special they came from Uncle Pete at http://www.bignissans.org.uk/ . He was kind enough to send them with a wiring schematic and OEM switch. I kept them in a box for years. Then one day after having missed several nights of sleep I installed the wipers and motors but went no further. The proper position of the switch is just below the center armrest/compartment.

If its possible to order them you would need to look into Northern European dealerships. Maybe wiking or the Norwegian guy could help. And if you should get into such an endeavor, look for the illuminated hazard switch, those are awesome!

Oh, and the Nissan emblem does NOT fit in my new grille. They tried to put the holes in the right places but the attitude of the rung angles just doesn't permit it.

Ohhhh. I misunderstood, but now that I re-read you said you kept them in a box for years meaning you had purchased them way prior.

Yeah I really hate that I haven't wired them in, its a sore spot and damned if everyone that observes them on my car doesn't ask: "do those work?"

And BTW I've got $100 for anyone that can produce and ship a euro illuminated hazard switch, I think I can manage that much wiring.

Sorry I'm just feeling all nostalgic this car has seen me through all kinds of **** in the past 13 years.

And no I don't think the EDM (new term for me) hazard switch would require any rewiring, its my understated/sarcastic/scotchirish/hillbilly since of humor i really think i could just plug the *ucker in and have a lighted hazard switch.

Some ISB noise, slight oil leak, noisy TOB and just feels worn. I plan to practice tranny rebuilding on it.

More like $300+ at the JY.

What I did was using tiny strips to mount a "MAXIMA" trunk badge to the grille.
Works fine:

BTW, I'll check if I have an EDM hazard switch for you and what postage will be.

Nothing warms my heart like the sight of a good looking VE .

Just after the VE swap. Yeah I'm a shady tree, dirt backyarding mechanic wannabee. I'm tightening up all the mechanical stuff before I turn to the body and appearance aspect of it...hey, when was the last time a 3rd gen got MOTM!

Why don't you get wrenching on that 3rd gen for Maxima of the Month, sh'e looking like she has much potential(even with all the dirt on her).

It's been years since a 3rd gen was MOTM. Honestly, I don't think any 3rd gens get even remote consideration. Probably mainly due to out of sight out of mind

I think a a billet style grille like this may look good with the border frame/outer trim in body color and the horizontal slats in a chrome/polished or machined aluminum finish. Check out the one on this Impala - Its not too much of a stretch to picture this on a 3rd gen maxima, the front end style is similar-ish -

Doyou know a good place or site to buy 4 GL parts?

I know you guys are into 3 GL Maximas but do you know where I could find a front bumper moulding for a 1996 Maxima? Mine got cracked when I inadvertently ran into a frozen pile of snow. I am looking to fix it as cheaply as possilbe. Thanks for your help.
