Steering flops around on every little bump

My steering wheel is starting to bounce around with every little bump I hit in the road and I cant seem to figure out why. The smallest bump in the road will make my steering wheel jolt to the right or left really fast before going back to where its supposed to be. This is way more drastic than normal. Also the steering wheel will have normal tension during a turn and then lose the tension and gain it back again. Something is wrong and I cant narrow it down. Someone please point me in the right direction.

Does this happen during acceleration at all, like when your driving about 40-50mph then give it a good amount of throttle to get to 60-70mph. Will pull left real quick and let go or pull right and let go??..

Maybe if you had someone wiggle the steering while you looked at the rack and pinion?

Definitely check the Control Arm Bushings. I replaced all of the steering and suspension components in my car last summer looking for the culprit. I just replaced the whole control arm ($50 each), instead of trying to just replace the bushings which seems pretty labor intensive for not much savings.

Not trying to thread jack, but this sounds a lot like what my car is doing. I just bought my car last month, which was in despirate need of tires and an alignment. After replacing the tires I noticed that when pulling off the car pulls to the right extremely hard and then straightens out. This only happens when the trans is shifting from 2nd to 3rd.. Not sure what this is about...possibly something major?

I asked cause it sounds like control arm bushings in my experiemce, I'd just replace the whole lca.

check your engine mounts, I had the same problem, every little bump in the road the wheel would bounce to the left or right. I replaced the engine mounts and the problem is gone away!!

Im gonna have to check my engine mounts as well bc im starting to have the same issue. The thing is, my struts, control arms, ball joints, and tie rod ends are all brand new (lowered on sprint springs and 18s btw). Why would a bad engine mount cause the car to move left/right over a bump? Wouldnt the engine move front/back?

Steering was fine until the nut on my tie rod end came off. Replaced the nut with a different one and it has been fine for only a week until yesterday i began to feel the same loose steering. At one point it feels fine, and then the steering will feel unresponsive (numb). Are there torque specs for the control arms, tie rod ends etc.?
