stance???

has anyone stanced out a 3rd gen? since theres very little for performance parts around for a 3rd gen now a days and im working on a 350 swapped 91 s10 project i want to make my max look alil better. figured the square body and some 16's/17's w/ a fat lip and stretched 195's or 215's would look sick. the car is gettin dropped on ksports in a couple weeks. i know the max has a horrible offset issue needing an et35 or et40 wheel. lower offset on a wider wheel w/ a stretched tire should work to solve this issue correct? mayb i should be asking this on a dub forum but figured id see if anyone here has inside info or personal experience.

lmao its not that i dont like the idea just not on a 3rd gen it can be done and may look good but in the end is it worth it? his best bet is to find a Q45, Cressida 1st or second gen GS 300 ,LS or a 1st gen M45 and go that route. HELL even an old school rabbit or passat just not a 3rd gen

Dont let me get my hands on a 3rd gen...

People said it was dumb to stance out an a33 i30 till I did it. Now most of the 5th gen section is trying to push the limits of fitment. lol. I dont know how good it will go on a 3rd gen, but its worth a shot just to say "it's been done". Wether it ends up being a FAIL or not.

c'mon guys... Hatmanafro did it a year ago. you see how that went over around here.

this sheit ain't hard. a 35 offset on an 8" wheel with 245 tire fits perfect. wanna look like a douchebag? go to a +15 dorifto offset and stick a 205 on it. yaaaay. you're on the wagon with the rest of 'em.

How much space do you have between your subframe and the road, essential?

Maybe 2 1/2 inches at the most if I remember correctly. Sparks fly if I hit a bump too hard on the highway. It makes an awsome light show at night. Gotta let someone shoot a video soon.

Do the measurments based on your current wheel and tire combo.

Or if you're brave, get a wheel design in that you like with fairly aggressive specs and make them fit. Dont be affraid to run a little stretch to help clear the fender. But always remember, strech only as much as you need to clear the fender.

putting tires that are too small for the wheels is stupid.
doing it for "looks" shows the rock-like intelligence of the owner.

essential1: thanks dude youre alot of help. i was plannin to doing alil mock up tomorrow w/ some cardboard. seeing exactly how much room i have between the mounting face and strut. and between the mounting face and fender. im not AS worried about fitment w/ the fender. i just dont want to run a 16x8 or 17x8 wheel and end up havin 1.5" or 2" of wheel stickin out past the fender lol i def want an 8" wide wheel tho. think ill start at et20 and see how far out it sticks. sound like how you messed around with fitment at first?

i 100% dont get peoples reasoning behind this, at all. let people do wth they want to do. not everyone is going to track their car. not everyone is going to stance their car. not everyone who does everything trackworthy to their car is making it 100% for the track or even 50% for the track. the car is daily driven. i have yet to this day heard of horror stories because of a stretched tire. so because you dont like the look of it is completely retarded/redundant for you to just sit there and call him retarded because thats what he wants to do. so take your narrow mindedness and return back to your '100% track tested bull****' thread and leave this 'stance' thread as is, if you have nothing beneficial to contribute.

to the OP take essential's words of wisdom...i tell you what...post a pic of your car, with whatever wheels you have on...and post the specs of the wheels...i can give you a reasonable estimate of where you need to be, AT LEAST to start. FYI you dont always have to have an extreme stretch on the tire to have a flush look.

its hard to catch onto at first w/ the whole wheel/offset/spacer thing, but once you catch on, its all addictive and you can estimate what you need via measurement or eyeballing whats needed for more flush/poke/(if you are an extremist, which i'm not) omnicamber

I love when people say this. It puts a smile on my face.

I actually didnt think too much about measurements when I was looking for my wheels. The only thing that was on my mind was, "i'm gonna make these things fit no matter what!" When I got the wheels and spun the coilovers down, the fender was literally sitting on the tire before we rolled and pulled the fender some.

By the way, my wheel specs are 19x8.5 et17 and 19x10 et22. I dont know 3rd gens too much at all to give you a starting point on what offset and width to look for.

im thinkin of runnin 16x8 or 17x8 just to get the car that much lower. and i occassionally take an on/off ramp like an *** but i rarely push my tires since the 3rd gen suspension is quite squishy at least stock lol

i would love to run privat remembers but i think tsw nardo's or strip's are going to be easier to find and make work. then again american racing torq thrusts might look decent. its all about lip really.

are coilovers not available for the 3rd gens?

i cant see doing airbags on a car that old either...airbags run average of $3k, plus to install them. but the OP is talking springs to drop his, pretty cheap. but at the end of the day...if you think about...people buy old cars and new cars and spend easily their value plus some more on their cars getting it how they want it...so...

they do exist, but you have to do a ton of modding and custom fabrication to make them work. i know 2 people have done it, one guy bought some 3rd gen coilovers and modded them to fit and a guy with a VE made his own coilovers and modded them to fit

hmm lets see i have 18" gt-r 34 rims that are 9 in wide +30 offset with 245/40/r18 on two and the other two are 215/45/r18. i didnt do the tires like that the previous owner had those tires on it like that.

I have no idea what O.P means. But I wanted to know, since so much time had passed. I thought that within the 3 years that passed, that he might have accomplished a lot with his build, seeing how money doesn't grow on trees n all. Is there anyone else that has stanced their 3rd gen?
