Question (survey) on AC performance

Hello,

I've been adjusting the pressure in my AC system (it was overcharged) using manifold gauges to get the high side and low side pressures close to the specified ranges in the FSM and would like to ask you all a question. Under the standard ac test conditions..

On a 90F Sunny day driving around town:

Center Vent Temp -Average Engine Loading (RPM 1300+): 48F (Lowest)
Center Vent Temp - Low Engine loading (RPM~low to idle speeds): 62F (Highest)
Time Avg : ~ 55F?

Driving around I noticed the temp varies quite a bit as the compressor cycles on and off.. I would say time-averaged its putting out about 54F.

Is it likely that 55F average blowing temp is the best I'm going to get out of the Maxima R134a on a bright 90F day while driving around town? Not sure if mine is operating as well as other peoples.

Relatedly, has anybody switched to HC12a (Duracool) and seen an increase in AC performance? It would seem that since the maxima variably cycles the compressor to keep the evaporator in a certain temperature range that there would be no benefit (AC wise) since the compressor would just be cycled off faster to keep the evaporator from icing up?

Thank you,
E.

Is your car a factory R134a or a retrofit? Your vent temps, to me, sound like vent temps you'd get from a retrofit. If so, that's about as good as it gets. Retrofits always give marginal performance in my experience. You'll always hear people claim that their retrofits work great but it always seems those people aren't having to sit in rush hour traffic in 100 degree heat like some of us in the south.

If your car is a factory r134a system ('93 or '94) then your performance seems to be lacking a bit compared to my factory r134a '93.
